رأيت الظِّبى في الحمى راتعاتْ

رأيت الظِّبى في الحمى راتعاتْ

فشاهدت أسماءها والصفاتْ

فشاهدت أسماءها والصفاتْ

I saw the gazelles grazing in the sanctuary.

I saw the gazelles in the protected land resting,

So I beheld their names and attributes.

So I looked upon their names and attributes.

ولما تجلت عدمنا الذوات

ولما تجلت عدمنا الذوات

وقلنا هي الغيب والغيب فات

وقلنا هي الغيب والغيب فات

And when they revealed themselves, all selves vanished for us.

When they appeared to us without identity,

And we said, 'They are the unseen, and the unseen has slipped away.'

We said they are the unseen and the unseen is lost.

ألا فالتفت يا مدير الكؤوس

ألا فالتفت يا مدير الكؤوس

ولا تنسني قد أطلت الجلوس

ولا تنسني قد أطلت الجلوس

Ah, then turn, O cupbearer,

So turn around, O pourer of cups,

And do not forget me; I have sat a long time.

And do not forget me, for I have sat here long.

أقمني لأشهد وجه العروس

أقمني لأشهد وجه العروس

وهات اسقني فضلة الكأس هات

وهات اسقني فضلة الكأس هات

Raise me up, that I may behold the bride's face.

Raise me up that I may witness the bride’s face,

And bring it: let me drink what remains in the cup—bring it!

And bring me the remnants of the cup, bring it here.

حبيبي سطا بالعيون الحسان

حبيبي سطا بالعيون الحسان

علينا فناديت منها الأمان

علينا فناديت منها الأمان

My beloved mounted an assault with his beautiful eyes

My beloved smiled at me with beautiful eyes,

Upon us; so I cried for safety from them.

So I called to him for safety,

وأهديت مني له كل آن

وأهديت مني له كل آن

سلاماً سلاماً وأوفى صلات

سلاماً سلاماً وأوفى صلات

And at every moment I offered him, from myself,

And I gave him from me every moment -

Peace, peace, and gifts in fullest measure.

Greetings, greetings, and most faithful prayers.

كذا آله والصحاب الكرام

كذا آله والصحاب الكرام

ذوو المجد مَن فضلهم لا يرام

ذوو المجد مَن فضلهم لا يرام

Likewise to his family and noble companions,

Just as his companions, the honorable ones,

Possessors of glory, whose excellence is beyond reach.

The ones whose glory cannot be envied,

بهم نال عبد الغني المقام

بهم نال عبد الغني المقام

ونال الرسوخ بهم والثبات

ونال الرسوخ بهم والثبات

Through them, Abd al-Ghani attained the station,

With them the servant attained his station,

And through them he attained firm rootedness and steadfastness.

And with them he attained firmness and steadfastness.
