لي كاتب يمحو السطور وينسخُ

وتراه يحكم ما أراد وينسخُ

I have a scribe who erases the lines and transcribes.

I have a writer who erases lines and transcribes,

And you see him establish what he wills and abrogate.

You see him decide what he wants and transcribes,

قرب له ما إن يزيل كماله

قرب له ما إن يزيل كماله

بعد وإن ميل أزيل وفرسخ

بعد وإن ميل أزيل وفرسخ

His is a nearness whose perfection is not diminished

Bring him close, though he may remove his perfection,

By distance, even if a mile and a parasang are removed.

After leaning, I removed and marched on,

هو ذا وهذا في الظهور وهذه

هو ذا وهذا في الظهور وهذه

جبل إذا اختلج المحقق يرسخ

جبل إذا اختلج المحقق يرسخ

He is this, and this in manifestation, and this.

A mountain, when the investigator is shaken, is rooted,

A mountain that stands firm when the knower of truth trembles.

Superstitions ride in the simple, and yet,

خرف تركب في البسيط وإنه

خرف تركب في البسيط وإنه

أبدا بأرواح المحبة ينفخ

أبدا بأرواح المحبة ينفخ

A dotard compounded within the simple; and indeed he

He forever breaths with the souls of love,

Forever breathes with the spirits of love.

For him the seven planets are eyes,

نور له السبع الكواكب أعين

نور له السبع الكواكب أعين

والأرض أم والحكيم له أخ

والأرض أم والحكيم له أخ

A light whose eyes are the seven planets;

And the earth a mother, and the wise man a brother.

And the earth is a mother, and the sage is his brother.
