    How many a maiden, consummate in her beauty—

    if the full moon perceived her radiance, it would go mad.

    I clothed her in a robe of soft silk,

    brand-new, and buttoned it over her with kisses.

    يَدكُّه محبوبه دكَّ الجبلْ

    And I have a heart enamored of beauties;

    its beloved crushes it as a mountain is crushed.

    Al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā are two appearances for him,

    through what lies behind them—and what lies behind Hubal.

    Love, like seed, is the root, and not

    do the branches appear for it except by way of the paths.
