سلم الأمر واعتصم باليقينِ

How long will you remain in manifest error?

For how long will you be in clear misguidance?

Surrender the matter and hold fast to certainty.

Submit to the truth and hold fast to certainty.

يا ابن يومين لا تكن في جدال

يا ابن يومين لا تكن في جدال

أنت كالبرق نشؤُ حينٍ فحينِ

أنت كالبرق نشؤُ حينٍ فحينِ

O son of two days, do not engage in dispute.

O child of two days, do not dispute,

You are like lightning, arising moment after moment.

You are like a lightning that flashes now and then.

ربنا الله وحده يتجلى

ربنا الله وحده يتجلى

عندنا بالتقبيح والتحسين

عندنا بالتقبيح والتحسين

Our Lord, Allah alone, manifests Himself

Our Lord is Allah alone, He manifests

to us through making ugly and making beautiful.

To us through blaming and praising.

قال كن للورى فكانوا جميعاً

قال كن للورى فكانوا جميعاً

وهو أمر مرتب التعيين

وهو أمر مرتب التعيين

He said 'Be!' to creation, and they all came to be.

He said "Be" to the creation, so they came to be,

And it is a command whose determination is ordered.

This is a well-ordered determination.

حضرة بالجلال تبدو وتخفى

حضرة بالجلال تبدو وتخفى

ظهرت بالجمال للتبيين

ظهرت بالجمال للتبيين

A Presence appears and is hidden in majesty;

With majesty He appears and disappears,

it has appeared in beauty to make itself known.

With beauty He emerged for explanation.

فبدا كل أحور الطرف أحوى

فبدا كل أحور الطرف أحوى

يتجلّى بوجه حور عين

يتجلّى بوجه حور عين

Then every dark-eyed, dusky one appeared,

So every beautiful-eyed one appeared enamored,

manifesting in the face of wide-eyed houris.

Manifesting with the face of a houri's eye.

إن تثنَّى فغصنُ بانٍ رطيبٍ

إن تثنَّى فغصنُ بانٍ رطيبٍ

قابضٍ كلَّ مهجة باليمين

قابضٍ كلَّ مهجة باليمين

If he sways, he is a fresh bough of the bān tree,

If He inclines a fresh, moist branch,

holding every heart in his right hand.

Grasping every affection with the right hand.

وهو لا شك وصف ولدان حور

وهو لا شك وصف ولدان حور

حجبت بالجلال عن كل عين

حجبت بالجلال عن كل عين

And this is, without doubt, a description of fair, dark-eyed youths,

He is undoubtedly describing immortal youths,

veiled by majesty from every eye.

Veiled by majesty from every eye.

دار دنيا ودار جنة خلد

دار دنيا ودار جنة خلد

واحد عند عارف مستكين

واحد عند عارف مستكين

The abode of this world and the abode of eternal Paradise

The earthly abode and abode of eternal paradise

are one to a humble knower.

Are one to a humble knower.

وهي عند الجهول نار تلظّى

وهي عند الجهول نار تلظّى

سوف يدري بذاك من غير مين

سوف يدري بذاك من غير مين

And to the ignorant one, it is a blazing fire;

And to the ignorant it is a scorching fire,

he will learn of that, without a lie.

He will know that without a protector.

فاكشفوا يا قلوب عمن رأيتم

فاكشفوا يا قلوب عمن رأيتم

ظاهراً بالوجود فالدين ديني

ظاهراً بالوجود فالدين ديني

So lift the veil, O hearts, from the One you have seen

So uncover, O hearts, whom you have seen

manifest in existence—for the faith is my faith.

Outwardly existing, for religion is my religion.

حجبتكم نفوسكم فجهلتم

حجبتكم نفوسكم فجهلتم

أنه النور نور حق مبين

أنه النور نور حق مبين

Your selves have veiled you, so you did not know

Your souls have veiled you, so you are ignorant

that He is the Light, the light of manifest Truth.

That He is the light, the clear light of truth.

ونفتكم عن الهدى شهوات

ونفتكم عن الهدى شهوات

من حلال ومن حرام مهين

من حلال ومن حرام مهين

And desires have banished you from guidance,

And desires have distracted you from guidance,

from lawful things and from base, forbidden things.

Of the lawful and the despised forbidden.

وهواكم هوى الجهول خبيث

وهواكم هوى الجهول خبيث

لم يطب باعتبار ما في الكمين

لم يطب باعتبار ما في الكمين

And your passion—the passion of the ignorant—is vile;

Your passions are the passions of the ignorant,

it has not become pure, considering what lies in ambush.

Not composed with consideration of what is hidden.

عهد ربي ألستُ خنتُم جهاراً

عهد ربي ألستُ خنتُم جهاراً

ما اتبعتم صراط طه الأمين

ما اتبعتم صراط طه الأمين

My Lord's covenant, 'Am I not?'—you betrayed it openly.

My Lord's covenant - have you not openly betrayed,

You did not follow the path of Ta Ha, the trustworthy one.

Not following the path of trustworthy Taha.

وكتاب الأبرار يعلو علوّاً

وكتاب الأبرار يعلو علوّاً

وكتاب الفجار في سجين

وكتاب الفجار في سجين

And the record of the righteous ascends on high,

The book of the righteous is most high,

and the record of the wicked is in Sijjin.

While the book of the wicked is imprisoned.

جعلوا رزقهم من الضعف أن قد

جعلوا رزقهم من الضعف أن قد

كذّبوا بالدين القوي المتين

كذّبوا بالدين القوي المتين

Out of weakness, they made their portion this: that they had indeed

They made their livelihood by the destitute when they

denied the strong, steadfast faith.

Denied the strong, steadfast religion.
