Hold fast to the Unseen of the unseen and forsake all else—there is no

other than Him. How long will you wear the garb of affliction?

Did not the Caller say to you, 'I am your Lord'?

And you said to Him, without a doubt, 'Yes.'

You forgot pledges taken for Him in the sanctuary,

binding you on nights of pearls, in a bygone age.

Stop here, O travelers toward what is other than Him.

For the other is the very object sought, when unveiled.

    به تمتلوا منه وينكشف الملا

    Take heed: wipe the eye of the hearts free of motes;

through Him you will be filled with Him, and the expanse will be unveiled.

And loosen reason's tether from forms whose

Fashioner has displayed them, varied in their adornments.

He is the Real, not you; and you, all of you,

are the imagined unreal; He transcends you all.

You say, 'We know nothing besides ourselves, nor do we see

with our eyes anything but created things revealed.'

You speak truly: through you, the Unseen of the unseen—obscured

to you were His essence's manifestations—thus changed form.

And eyes have strayed from Him, and so have the

inner eyes, when you disobeyed through imagining.

So had you acted in obedience to His command

through Him, and been sincerely God-fearing, He would have turned toward you.

So glory to the One who is pleased with the servant if He wills,

then makes him content, lavishly enabling him to do good.

And if He wills, He is angered; this is a matter decreed

from of old for every person, already set out in detail.

Truths of knowledge with no causes, decreed

by the Eternal One, already established from the first.

    تجده رحيماً منعماً متفضّلا

    So submit to God, your Lord, and remain upright;

you will find Him merciful, bestowing blessings and favors.

And you are His servant; your duty is contentment.

And with Him, you have no right to see a role for yourself.

So surrender to Him and be safe, and turn toward

His commands, and shun what is forbidden in what He recited.

And beware: do not ask 'Why?' nor say,

'I want such-and-such from Him'; make no proposals, nor...

And be like masters who passed on sincerely devoted, who did not

turn away from piety; they are the ones who lead.
