سمع السمع وهو في الإلتباسِ

وتناسى سماعه في الناسِ

Hearing heard while it was in confusion,

Hearing heard while in confusion

and feigned forgetfulness of its hearing among people.

And forgot its hearing among the people

سوف قد سوفت إليها قلوباً

سوف قد سوفت إليها قلوباً

قلبتها زخارف الوسواس

قلبتها زخارف الوسواس

‘Shall’ has already delayed hearts in their turning toward her,

Hearts have leaned towards it

hearts turned about by the embellishments of whispering.

Whose ornaments are the insinuations of obsession

ولسين السماء ماء مضاف

ولسين السماء ماء مضاف

لحياة النفوس بالأنفاس

لحياة النفوس بالأنفاس

And to the sīn of samāʾ (‘sky’), māʾ (‘water’) is added,

The rain of the sky is an additive

for the life of souls through breaths.

To the life of souls with breaths

هي حرف لها انحراف المعاني

هي حرف لها انحراف المعاني

وحشة أدمجت مع الإيناس

وحشة أدمجت مع الإيناس

She is a letter toward which meanings turn,

It is a letter that deviates meanings

an estrangement blended with companionship.

A terror that blended with intimacy

سطعت في الورى نجوم هداها

سطعت في الورى نجوم هداها

فتراءت لراسخ القلب راسي

فتراءت لراسخ القلب راسي

The stars of her guidance shone among humankind,

Stars shone in the world, guided

and appeared to one steadfast and firm of heart.

So they appeared to the steadfast heart upright

وهي ملء العيون حيث تبدت

وهي ملء العيون حيث تبدت

تتجلى وملء باقي الحواس

تتجلى وملء باقي الحواس

She fills the eyes wherever she appears,

It fills the eyes wherever it appeared

revealing herself and filling the rest of the senses.

Manifests and fills the rest of the senses

وبها هذه وتلك استقامت

وبها هذه وتلك استقامت

فهي فيها تضيء كالنبراس

فهي فيها تضيء كالنبراس

Through her, this and that were set straight,

With it this and that became upright

so she shines within them like a lamp.

So it illuminates in it like a torch
