1. هو العظيم الذي علا شانُهُ

    وقام بالكفتين ميزانُهُ

    He is the Great One, whose station is exalted,

    and his balance stood with its two pans.

  2. وقد تثنت قدوده ورنت

    عيونه واستمال إنسانُهُ

    And indeed his figures swayed, and gazing were

    his eyes; his human form won hearts.

  3. ولم يزل واحداً وكثرته

    ذيول أثوابه وأردانُهُ

    And he has ever remained one, and his multiplicity

    is the hems of his robes and his sleeves.

  4. وكنت قرآنه بجمعي أنا

    بل أنا مني بالفرق فرقانُهُ

    And I myself was his Qur’an in my union;

    rather, I, from myself, in separation, am his Furqan.

  5. جلت عيون رأته في صور

    قام عليها بالحق برهانُهُ

    Exalted were eyes that saw him in forms,

    upon which his proof was established in truth.

  6. وجل قلب درى بعزته

    يقينه ملؤه وإيمانُهُ

    And exalted was a heart that knew of his might,

    its certainty and faith being its fullness.

  7. ملأت منه يدي وليس بها

    سواه إذ ما سواه ملآنُهُ

    I filled my hand with him, and in it there is none

    but him, since all besides him is filled with him.

  8. وماء حوض النبي راق لنا

    ونحن أكوابه وكيزانُهُ

    And the water of the Prophet’s pool pleased us,

    and we are his cups and his jugs.

  9. تبارك الله حين صورني

    صورته في وهي إحسانُهُ

    Blessed be God when he fashioned me:

    his image is within me, and it is his beneficence.

  10. وانتظمت بالوجود سُبْحَتُنا

    في سلكه المستطيل سبحانُهُ

    And through existence our prayer beads were strung

    on his long thread—glory be to him!
