واحد وهو في الظهور ثلاثَهْ

قد وجدنا من الجميع انبعاثَهْ

He is one, yet in manifestation three;

we have indeed found his emanation from them all.

ذاتُ جبريلَ وصفَ دحيةَ حاكت

ذاتُ جبريلَ وصفَ دحيةَ حاكت

فبدا وجهه بحسن الدماثه

فبدا وجهه بحسن الدماثه

Gabriel's essence mirrored Dihya's appearance,

so his face appeared with the beauty of gentleness.

فافهموا هذه الثلاثة منكم

فافهموا هذه الثلاثة منكم

واعرفوها وحققوا للوراثه

واعرفوها وحققوا للوراثه

So understand these three within yourselves,

and recognize them and realize them, that you may inherit.

يا بني هذه العصابة كونوا

يا بني هذه العصابة كونوا

حلس بيتي تمهدون أثاثه

حلس بيتي تمهدون أثاثه

O sons of this fellowship, be

the mat of my house, setting out its furnishings.

واعلموا أنكم ذكور التجلي

واعلموا أنكم ذكور التجلي

وسواكم لما يزالوا إناثه

وسواكم لما يزالوا إناثه

And know that you are the males of manifestation,

while all others remain its females.

وترقوا بعلمنا أوج قرب

وترقوا بعلمنا أوج قرب

لا يدانى وحققوا أبحاثه

لا يدانى وحققوا أبحاثه

And ascend through our knowledge to the summit of nearness

that none can match; and investigate its questions fully.

خبر العشق أنني مبتداه

خبر العشق أنني مبتداه

فاسمعوا بي انتشاره وانبثاثه

فاسمعوا بي انتشاره وانبثاثه

Love's tidings are that I am its beginning;

so hear through me its spreading and diffusion.

وكر غيب الغيوب يأويه قلبي

وكر غيب الغيوب يأويه قلبي

صرت نسراً به وكنت بغاثه

صرت نسراً به وكنت بغاثه

My heart shelters the nest of the mystery of mysteries;

through him I became an eagle, though I had been a weak bird.

وبه عاش كل ميت فألقى

وبه عاش كل ميت فألقى

من تماثيل كونه أجداثه

من تماثيل كونه أجداثه

And through him every dead one came to life, then cast away

his tombs from among the images of his being.

كم أنادي به وقد صرت شيخاً

كم أنادي به وقد صرت شيخاً

يا زمان الصبى وعصر الحداثه

يا زمان الصبى وعصر الحداثه

How often I cry out through him, now that I have grown old:

O time of boyhood and season of youth!

علقتنا به الصفات عليه

علقتنا به الصفات عليه

فظهرنا قروطه ورعاثه

فظهرنا قروطه ورعاثه

Through him, the attributes hung us upon him,

and we appeared as his earrings and ear-pendants.

عدم كلنا وذاك وجود

عدم كلنا وذاك وجود

مسكُهُ فاح مخمداً أرواثه

مسكُهُ فاح مخمداً أرواثه

We are all nonexistence; that one is existence.

His musk wafted, quelling the stench of his dung.

ماؤه والدقيق منا عجين

ماؤه والدقيق منا عجين

واحد وهي خلطة وعلاثه

واحد وهي خلطة وعلاثه

His water and the flour from us are dough—

one, though it is a mixture and a mingling.
