ردنيbrought me back اللهGod لهto Him رداًa return جميلاbeautiful
ردني الله له رداً جميلا
فهوfor He ربيmy Lord لاnot أرىI see عنهin His place بديلاa substitute
فهو ربي لا أرى عنه بديلا
God has brought me back to Him in a beautiful return.
May God bring me back to him with a beautiful return
For He is my Lord; I see no substitute for Him.
For He is my Lord, I see no alternative to Him
أناI مشغولabsorbed بهin Him فيin كلall ماthat
أنا مشغول به في كل ما
أناI مشغولabsorbed بهin it شغلاًabsorption طويلاprolonged
أنا مشغول به شغلاً طويلا
I am absorbed in Him in all that
I am busy with Him in all I do
I am absorbed in for a long time.
I am busy with Him for a long time
ولهذاand for this reason لاnot ترانيyou see me أرعويbe deterred
ولهذا لا تراني أرعوي
منfrom سواهanyone but Him أبداever قالاًtalk وقيلاand hearsay
من سواه أبدا قالاً وقيلا
And so you do not see me be deterred
And so you will not see me shepherd
by talk or hearsay from anyone but Him, ever.
Anyone other than Him, not even partially
ليI have بأكنافin the precincts of الحمىthe sanctuary قلبٌa heart شجىsorrowful
لي بأكناف الحمى قلبٌ شجى
لمdid not يطقbear عنهfrom it وإنand even if شطwas far away الرحيلاdeparture
لم يطق عنه وإن شط الرحيلا
I have a sorrowful heart in the sanctuary's precincts,
In the bosoms of ardour my heart is anguished
which could not bear to leave it, though far away.
It could not bear separation though the journey was long
ومطاياand the mounts فكرتيmy thought طولthroughout الدجىthe darkness of night
ومطايا فكرتي طول الدجى
تقطعcross البيدthe deserts لهfor Him ميلاًa mile فميلاthen a mile
تقطع البيد له ميلاً فميلا
And the mounts of my thought, throughout the dark night,
And the mounts of my thoughts throughout the night
cross the deserts for Him, mile after mile.
Traverse the distances for Him mile after mile
ياO أخلائيmy dear friends وهذاand this جسديmy body
يا أخلائي وهذا جسدي
لمhas not يزلceased to be بالشامin al-Sham مطروحاlaid low عليلاailing
لم يزل بالشام مطروحا عليلا
O my dear friends, this body of mine
Oh my friends though this body of mine
still lies in al-Sham, laid low and ailing.
Remains in Damascus, frail and unwell
لكنbut الصحةhealth فيin القلبthe heart وإنand even if
لكن الصحة في القلب وإن
بطلfailed الصبرpatience وأضحىand became مستحيلاimpossible
بطل الصبر وأضحى مستحيلا
Yet health lies in the heart, even if
Health lies in the heart even if
patience has failed and become impossible.
