فر يا طائراً إلى ربكْ

فر يا طائراً إلى ربكْ

عن سواه بمقتضى حبكْ

Flee, O bird, to your Lord,

Fly away, O bird, to your Lord

Away from all but Him, as your love demands.

Away from all others out of your love for Him

وتعلق به على ثقة

وتعلق به على ثقة

منه غيباً ومل إلى قربك

منه غيباً ومل إلى قربك

And cling to Him with trust

And hold fast to Him with trust

In Him unseen, and turn toward your nearness to Him.

In His unseen realm and incline to your nearness to Him

فهو مولاك يرتضيك له

فهو مولاك يرتضيك له

عبدا إن تبت فيه من ذنبك

عبدا إن تبت فيه من ذنبك

For He is your Master, accepting you for Himself

For He is your Master, pleased with you as

As a servant, if in Him you repent of your sin.

وبه لا بك اختطفه تنل

وبه لا بك اختطفه تنل

لمحة منه فهو في دربك

لمحة منه فهو في دربك

And through Him, not through yourself, seize Him, and you will gain

And through Him, not you, snatch a

A glimpse of Him, for He is on your path.

وإذا ما اختطفته فعلى

وإذا ما اختطفته فعلى

نفسك الإختطاف لا ربك

نفسك الإختطاف لا ربك

And if you seize Him, then upon

And when you snatch Him, the snatching is on

Yourself falls the seizure, not upon your Lord.

Yourself, not your Lord

هو أدنى إليك منك له

هو أدنى إليك منك له

كل نفس فالنفس من حجبك

كل نفس فالنفس من حجبك

He is nearer to you than you are to Him

He is closer to you than you are to Him

At every breath; for the self is one of your veils.

Every soul, so the soul veils you from Him

أنت عنه بك احتجبت ولم

أنت عنه بك احتجبت ولم

يحتجب عنك في صفا شربك

يحتجب عنك في صفا شربك

You have veiled yourself from Him through yourself, and He has not

You veiled yourself from Him through you, yet

Veiled Himself from you in the clarity of your draught.

He did not veil Himself from you in your clear drink

إنما شف عنه ثوبك في

إنما شف عنه ثوبك في

لبسة الماء منك مع تربك

لبسة الماء منك مع تربك

Your garment only grew sheer, revealing Him in

Only your garment obscured Him from you

The garb of your water together with your dust.

In the water's garb on you along with your dust

فتجرد عن الوجود به

فتجرد عن الوجود به

وتحققه وافن عن سربك

وتحققه وافن عن سربك

So strip yourself of existence through Him,

So strip yourself of existence through Him

And realize Him, and pass away from your flock,

And realize Him and vanish from your flock

وعن الكل وابق فيه به

وعن الكل وابق فيه به

حضرة المصطفى الذي هو بك

حضرة المصطفى الذي هو بك

And from all; and abide in Him through Him,

And from all, and remain through Him in Him
