هذه كل ظاهر هو فيها

هذه كل ظاهر هو فيها

وبها كل ناطق يعنيها

وبها كل ناطق يعنيها

This is the one in which every manifest thing resides.

And through it, every speaker refers to it.

فتأمل في نفس ذات تليها

فتأمل في نفس ذات تليها

عطس الصبح في الدجى فاسقنيها

عطس الصبح في الدجى فاسقنيها

So contemplate the very essence that follows it.

Dawn sneezed in the darkness—so give it to me to drink:

خمرةً تترك الحليم سفيها

خمرةً تترك الحليم سفيها

إنني كنت سابقاً في ابتلاءِ

إنني كنت سابقاً في ابتلاءِ

A wine that leaves the sensible man foolish.

Indeed, I was once in affliction,

من وجودي بغير علم اجتلاءِ

من وجودي بغير علم اجتلاءِ

وأنا اليوم صرت خمر اصطفاءِ

وأنا اليوم صرت خمر اصطفاءِ

From my existence, without knowledge of unveiled vision.

And today I have become the wine of election.

لست أدري من رقَّةٍ وصفاءِ

لست أدري من رقَّةٍ وصفاءِ

هي في كأسها أم الكاس فيها

هي في كأسها أم الكاس فيها

I cannot tell, because of its delicacy and clarity,

Whether it is in its cup, or the cup is in it.
