إن وجهاً كنت أنظرُهُ

يختفي عني فأظهره

A face I used to see

Disappears from me, so show it

والذي أخطى مصوره

ساكنٌ في القلب يعمره

He who drew its image

Resides in my heart to inhabit it

لست أنساه فأذكره

كم به وجدي أجاهدُهُ

I do not forget him to remember him

How much with it my inner self struggles

وهو فرد الكون واحده

ولئن زالت شواهده

He is the universe's only one

And if evidence of him passes

حاضر عندي أشاهده

وسويدا القلب تبصره

He is present, I witness him

And Suwaid, the heart sees him

إنني في روضه ثمرُ

منته فيه ومؤتمر

I am in a garden bearing fruit

Finished in it and conferred

ثم لمّا غرني القمر

قلت للعذال مذ أمروا

Then when the moon deceived me

I said to the reprimanders when they ordered

بسلوٍّ عز أيسره

خائف والحق مَأْمَنُهُ

A consolation of difficult honor

Fearful while the truth is his refuge

فانظروا فالحب يحضنه

هل سلو الصب يمكنه

So see, love embraces him

Can the consolation of passion enable him

مالكي في القلب مسكنه

فسلوي أين أضمره

My guardian in the heart inhabits him

So console me, where do I hide him
