كل تحريك تراه وسكونْ

كل تحريك تراه وسكونْ

فانتقال من حياة لمنونْ

فانتقال من حياة لمنونْ

Every movement you see, and every stillness,

Every motion you see, and stillness,

is thus a passage from life to death.

Is but a transition from life to death's home.

وجميع الكون إن حققته

وجميع الكون إن حققته

فإشاراتٌ إلى كن فيكون

فإشاراتٌ إلى كن فيكون

And all existence, if you discern its truth,

And if you understand the whole universe,

is signs pointing to “Be—and it comes to be.”

It is but signs to "Be," and it becomes.

نظرة أعطت وأخرى أخذت

نظرة أعطت وأخرى أخذت

كل شيء في الورى عالٍ ودون

كل شيء في الورى عالٍ ودون

One glance gave, and another took,

One look gave, another took away,

everything in creation, high and low.

Everything in existence, high and low.

فهي عين وإذا شئت فقل

فهي عين وإذا شئت فقل

أعين سالت لنا منها عيون

أعين سالت لنا منها عيون

So it is an eye; and if you wish, say:

So it is an eye, and if you wish, say

eyes, from which springs have flowed for us.

Eyes that shed for us from it, eyes.

وهي ذات حذرتنا نفسها

وهي ذات حذرتنا نفسها

صعبت فينا وإن شاءت تهون

صعبت فينا وإن شاءت تهون

And it is an essence that warned us against itself;

And it is a self that warned us of itself,

it grew difficult within us, yet, if it wills, it becomes easy.

Made difficult in us, and if it wished, made gentle.

حجبت عنها بها أعيننا

حجبت عنها بها أعيننا

فظهور من بطون وبطون

فظهور من بطون وبطون

It veiled our eyes from itself through itself;

It veiled from it our eyes with them,

thus, manifestation from concealment—and concealment.

So appearance from essence, and essence from essence.

كل يوم هو في شان وذا

كل يوم هو في شان وذا

عجبٌ فاليوم من تلك الشئون

عجبٌ فاليوم من تلك الشئون

Every day He is in an affair—and this

Every day it is of a matter, and that

is a wonder, for the day is among those affairs.

Is wonder - so today is of those matters.

وشئون هي في شأن بدت

وشئون هي في شأن بدت

باختفاء عن سناه وكمون

باختفاء عن سناه وكمون

And affairs appeared within an affair,

And matters they are of a matter appeared

through concealment from its radiance, and latency.

By disappearance from its ease and latency.

ثم ذاك الشان في شان إلى

ثم ذاك الشان في شان إلى

لا إلى مما تراه العارفون

لا إلى مما تراه العارفون

Then that affair is within an affair, onward to

Then that matter is of a matter to

no end—among what the knowers behold.

No end, as the gnostics see.

فاجتهد في السير واقرع بابه

فاجتهد في السير واقرع بابه

وادخل الحضرة والبيت المصون

وادخل الحضرة والبيت المصون

So strive on the journey, and knock at His door;

So strive in the journey, and knock on His door,

and enter the Presence and the guarded house.

And enter the Presence and the Guarded House.

لا تظن الباب يا باب سوى

لا تظن الباب يا باب سوى

أنت والبيت سوى أنت يكون

أنت والبيت سوى أنت يكون

Do not think the door, O door, to be other than

Do not think the door is anything but

you, or the house to be other than you.

You, and the house anything but you exists.

وافهم الأمر به يا أمره

وافهم الأمر به يا أمره

تعرف الأمر مع الكل فنون

تعرف الأمر مع الكل فنون

And understand the command through Him, O His command;

And understand the matter through it, O its matter,

you will know the command, with all things, in its many forms.

You will know the matter with the all of arts.
