Indeed, existence is a reality that cannot be grasped.

The monotheist and the polytheist have both stopped short of it.

And people form two groups regarding it: one who knows

Has attained perfection, and an ignorant one who raises objections.

The essence is one, yet its effects are

    Purest whiteness and pitch-black darkness.

So cast off all the bonds of created things,

And loose your reins in the night journey, holding fast.

    لا يحجبنَّكَ عثيرٌ أو درمك

    And open your eyes to the reality of what you see;

Let neither dust nor fine white flour veil you.

The murk of finery settled in your water, concealing

From you the very thing your eye lays bare.

Yet your being is receptive, and so is all creation,

To purity; so take the path—oh, the bliss of whoever takes it!
