حرم آمنٌ لكعبة قلبي

أنا فيه مخطوف عقل ولب

A sacred sanctuary for the Kaaba of my heart

Where my mind and heart have been enchanted

هائم أطلب الوجود فألقى

حجباً أسدلت ببعد وقرب

I roam seeking existence, only finding

Veils lowered by remoteness and nearness

وهو فينا مظاهر ومجالي

إن سلكنا به مسالك حب

And He is manifest in us and our spheres

If we tread the paths of love with Him

يا بني قومنا قفوا بحمانا

واصحبونا وشاركونا بشرب

O my people's children, stand by our passions

And accompany us and share in our drinking

هذه طلعة الحبيب جهارا

تجمع الحسن للنواظر تسبي

Gathering beauty for gazes to capture

I am an orient to His sun, so understand me

أنا شَرْقٌ لشمسها فاجتلوني

ليس عني يوماً تميل لغرب

Never from Him does my being incline to set

I am my Lord in what I say, the All-Knowing

أنا ربي بما أقول عليم

حيث بي كان قائلاً أنا ربي

Wherever I was, He said "I am my Lord"

Every subtlety from His subtlety is borrowed

كل لطف من لطفه مستعار

وهو عني على الحقيقة يبني

While He builds truth upon my being

My being was His being, so we became equal

كنته حين كانني فاستوينا

في ترجي اللقا وتفريج كربي

In yearning to meet and relieve my troubles

She is a spirit breathed into my soul

وهي روح مهبها ذات أمر

وأنا هائم بذاك المهب

And I roam with that blowing wind

And if I call seeking a matter

وإذا ما ناديت أطلب أمراً

فهي بي ذلك النداء تلبي

It is she, with that call, who responds

So know me through her and do not know her

فاعروفوني بها ولا تعرفوها

بي فستر الوجود ذلك دأبي

Through me, for that is how I veil existence
