لا تمش معه كما ترى

وامش إليه القهقرى

Do not walk with Him as you see,

Do not walk with him as you see,

and walk toward Him backward.

And walk backwards to him,

وإليه فاسمع تقلبو

وإليه فاسمع تقلبو

ن كما أتاك مقررا

ن كما أتاك مقررا

And to Him—listen—you will be returned,

And listen to him overturning,

as it has come to you, firmly stated.

As he came to you resolved,

أوما سمعت بأنه

أوما سمعت بأنه

قد قال عنك كما ترى

قد قال عنك كما ترى

And have you not heard that He

Or have you not heard that

has indeed spoken of you, as you see?

He has said about you as you see,

هذا الذي قد جاء في ال

قرآن عنه بلا امتِرا

قرآن عنه بلا امتِرا

This is what has come in the

This that has come in the

Qur’an from Him, without doubt,

Qur'an about him without doubt

لتراه ليس برؤية

لتراه ليس برؤية

معهودة لك في الورى

معهودة لك في الورى

that you may see Him—not through a vision

You will see him not with a

familiar to you among created beings,

Familiar vision to you in existence,

بل رؤية لا رؤية

بل رؤية لا رؤية

وجرى الحديث وما جرى

وجرى الحديث وما جرى

but a vision that is no vision.

But a vision without vision

And the discourse flowed, yet did not flow.

And the talk went on and what went on

إن الوجود فقط له

إن الوجود فقط له

لكن أبانك مظهرا

لكن أبانك مظهرا

Indeed, existence belongs to Him alone,

Existence is only for him

but He made you manifest as a locus of manifestation.

But your essence manifests him

فاشهده لا تشهد سوا

فاشهده لا تشهد سوا

ه وكن به كيف الكرى

ه وكن به كيف الكرى

So witness Him; witness none but

So witness him, witness only

Him, and be through Him in the manner of slumber.

Him and be with him however existence is

والكائنات جميعها

والكائنات جميعها

مثل الخيال إذا سرى

مثل الخيال إذا سرى

And all created beings

And all creatures

are like a phantom when it journeys by night,

Are like an illusion when it flows

كاللمح من بصر لمن

كاللمح من بصر لمن

قرأ الكتاب وما درى

قرأ الكتاب وما درى

like the blink of an eye, for one who

Like a glance from the vision of one

read the Book yet did not understand:

Who read the book and did not know

هو أمره والأمر قد

هو أمره والأمر قد

دره فجاء مقدرا

دره فجاء مقدرا

It is His command; and the command He

It is His command and the command indeed

decreed, so it came forth ordained.

He knew so it came predetermined

يا مظهر الحق المبي

يا مظهر الحق المبي

ن انظر لربك من ورا

ن انظر لربك من ورا

O locus of manifestation of the manifest Truth,

O manifestation of the Evident Truth look to your Lord from behind

look toward your Lord from behind.

And understand the words of a knower

وافهم مقالة عارف

وافهم مقالة عارف

ودع المرا والإفترا

ودع المرا والإفترا

And understand a knower’s saying,

And leave fiction and slander

and abandon disputation and fabrication.
