حبيبنا في بديع الحسن حيَّرنا
بينbetween الحياةlife وبينand between الموتdeath خيَّرناgave us a choice
بين الحياة وبين الموت خيَّرنا
Our beloved bewildered us with wondrous beauty.
He gave us the choice between life and death.
حكمpassed judgment عليناon us وبالهجرانand through estrangement غيّرناchanged us
حكم علينا وبالهجران غيّرنا
وبعدand after هذاthis بسوءfor the wretchedness of الحالthe state عيّرناtaunted us
وبعد هذا بسوء الحال عيّرنا
He passed judgment on us and changed us through estrangement.
And after this, he taunted us for our wretched state.
