Sol 6.1

  1. نحن عن شمس أمره كالشعاعِ

    بافتراق في سرعة واجتماعِ

    We are like a ray from the sun of His command,

    In swift separation and reunion.

  2. يتجلى بنا فنعرف منه

    ما عرفنا منا بغير نزاع

    He manifests Himself through us, so we know of Him

    What we have known of ourselves, without dispute.

  3. وهو في أكمل الدنو إلينا

    وهو عنا في غاية الإرتفاع

    He is in the fullest nearness to us,

    Yet He is far above us, at the utmost height.

  4. قربنا منه كلما كان شبراً

    كان قرب منه لنا كذراع

    Whenever our nearness to Him is a handspan,

    His nearness to us is like a cubit.

  5. ثم قرب الذراع إن كان منا

    فلنا منه كان قرب الباع

    Then, if a cubit's nearness comes from us,

    From Him comes an armspan's nearness to us.

  6. هكذا أخبر المبلغ عنه

    بانكشاف من وحيه واطِّلاع

    Thus spoke the one who conveys His message,

    Through unveiling from His revelation and insight.

  7. يا بني قومنا السراة إليه

    بنفوس إلى لقاه جياع

    O sons of our people, journeying by night toward Him,

    With souls hungry to meet Him,

  8. وعيون إذا الظلام أتاها

    شخصت نحو برقه اللماع

    And eyes which, when darkness comes upon them,

    Fix their gaze toward His flashing lightning.

  9. ههنا مغرم به قذفته

    عنه أشواقه لخير بقاع

    Here is one enamored of Him, cast forth

    Away from Him by his longings, to the finest of places:

  10. بقعة النفس فهو دار حبيب ال

    قلب مفروشة بحسن الطباع

    The soul's domain, for it is the home of the beloved of the

    Heart, furnished with beauty of character.

  11. فرأى الباب مقفلاً فأتاه ال

    فتح منه بالذلِّ والإتضاع

    He saw the door locked; then came to him the

    Opening from Him, through abasement and humility.

  12. ومشى عنه فيه يقصد ذاتاً

    هي ملء العيون والأسماع

    He walked away from Him, within Him, seeking an Essence

    That fills eyes and ears.

  13. فتعالت عليه حتى تدانى

    سامعاً من جهاتها صوت داع

    It rose high above him until he drew near,

    Hearing from its quarters the voice of one calling.

  14. وبها خاض دونها بحر نور

    ما له ساحلٌ بغير شراع

    And through it he plunged, before reaching it, into a sea of light,

    Shoreless, without a sail.

  15. وسطا سطوة الشجاع وهل يق

    تحم المعركات غير الشجاع

    He charged with a brave man's force—and who would

    Plunge into battles but the brave?

  16. ثم أضحى من بعد ذاك وهذا

    مثل ما كان أسر أمر مطاع

    Then, after that and this, he became

    As he had been: in thrall to a command obeyed.

  17. فهو ما تطلبونه وهو أيضاً

    ما تركتم له حذار خداع

    He is what you seek, and He is also

    What you forsook for His sake, for fear of deception.

  18. عظم الأمر ثم زا التباساً

    عند من لم يكن عن الحق واعي

    The matter grew great, then grew more obscure

    For one who had no understanding of the Truth.

  19. فانقلوا قصة المحبة عني

    يا نداماي وافهموا أوضاعي

    So pass on the story of love from me,

    O my boon companions, and understand my states.

  20. هو هذا الذي ترون ولكن

    نملنا فيه عندكم كالسباع

    He is this that you see; yet

    Our ants in Him are, in your eyes, like beasts of prey.

  21. قد تبدّى فأين أهل الترائي

    وتغنّى فأين أهل السماع

    He has appeared—where are those who behold?

    And He has sung—where are those who listen?

  22. صبغة الله بالوجود أجادت

    صنعة الإبتداع والإختراع

    God's dye, through existence, has perfected

    The craft of origination and invention.

  23. هوْ شراب وما سواه سراب

    شربه للشفا من الأوجاع

    He is a drink; all besides Him is a mirage.

    Drinking Him brings healing from pain.

  24. خَصَّ قوماً به وباعد قوماً

    ليس يوم اللقا كيوم الوداع

    He favored some with it and kept others far away.

    The day of meeting is not like the day of farewell.
