أعط طرفا له وللكون طرفا

تلقَ في الكون أقحواناً وطرفا

Give Him a glance, and the universe a glance;

you will find chrysanthemums and wonders in the universe.

لك عينان عين غيب تراه

وتراه الأخرى فتصرف صرفا

You have two eyes: an eye of the unseen beholds Him,

and the other beholds Him; so turn your gaze fully.

أنا عبد الغني لمعة برق

بعدها لمحة تلوح وتخفى

I, ʿAbd al-Ghanī, am a flash of lightning,

followed by a glimpse that gleams and vanishes.

هكذا دائماً لأنيَ روح

نفخُ أمرٍ من الإله مصفى

Thus am I always, for I am a spirit,

a purified breath of a command from God,

ظاهر في كثيف جسم تجلّى

فيه روح وهو اللطيف الموفَّى

manifest in a dense body, wherein has appeared

a spirit—and it is the subtle one, made complete.

كل شيء مثلي كثيف لطيف

وإذا ما عرفت زادك لطفا

Everything, like me, is dense and subtle;

and when you understand, it increases your subtlety.

فاترك الكل عنك وانظر إليه

بالوجود الحق الذي فيك يلفى

So leave everything aside and look toward Him

through the true Being that is found within you.

تعرف الكل بالوجود جهاراً

فهو أعلى منهم وأجلى وأكفى

You will know everything plainly through Being,

for it is higher than them, clearer, and more sufficient.

يا ابن ودي هي الحقيقة أمر

واحد صار ذلك الأمر ألفا

O son of my love, Reality is a thing—

one alone; that thing became a thousand,

بظهور في كل شيء مراد

للإله الذي تحققت كشفا

through manifestation in every thing willed

by God, whom you have known with certainty through unveiling.

ظاهرا ذاك لا يزال ولكن

شمسه قد كشفتها عنك كسفا

That never ceases to be manifest, but

you have stripped its sun away from yourself in fragments.
