طيب الحبائبْ نفح يا حسنه من ندّْ
والصبرْand patience منيfrom me عليهمwith them فيin البراريthe wilderness ندّْfled
والصبرْ مني عليهم في البراري ندّْ
The beloveds’ fragrance has wafted—how lovely a perfume it is!
And patience with them has fled from me into the wilderness.
نديتI gave generously بالروحْwith the soul فيمنfor one who باللقاwith a meeting ماnot ندّْwas generous
نديت بالروحْ فيمن باللقا ما ندّْ
كأنهas though he قدhad رأىseen ليto me فيin هواهlove for him ندّْan equal
كأنه قد رأى لي في هواه ندّْ
I lavished my soul on one who bestowed no meeting,
As though he had found my equal in loving him.
