أصابع الغيب فينا حركت عودَهْ

وحرقت تحت أذيال الحجا عودَهْ

The fingers of the unseen stirred its lute within us,

and burned its aloeswood beneath the hems of reason.

العقل أول مخلوق به وردت

أخبار طه رسول الله مقصوده

Intellect is the first created thing; concerning it came

the reports of Taha, God's Messenger, with this intended meaning.

وليس ثم سواه واحد هو في

وليس ثم سواه واحد هو في

عين الحقيقة لاحت بيضه سوده

عين الحقيقة لاحت بيضه سوده

There is no one there besides it; in

the very essence of reality its whites and blacks have shone forth.

وذاك عقل وجود الحق قد ظهرت

وذاك عقل وجود الحق قد ظهرت

عنه التصاوير بالتقدير محدوده

عنه التصاوير بالتقدير محدوده

That is the intellect of the Real's existence; there have appeared

from it images, delimited by due measure.

وفيه قوة تصوير الحقائق من

وفيه قوة تصوير الحقائق من

حس ومعنى مدا الأوقات مشهوده

حس ومعنى مدا الأوقات مشهوده

Within it is the power to shape realities, whether

sensory or intelligible, witnessed throughout all time.

وكل شيء من الأشياء أجمعها

وكل شيء من الأشياء أجمعها

قامت فمذمومة فيه ومحموده

قامت فمذمومة فيه ومحموده

And all things, every one of them,

have subsisted within it, both blameworthy and praiseworthy.

والحق صوَّرها حتى تصورها

والحق صوَّرها حتى تصورها

فيه فصارت بهذا الأمر موجوده

فيه فصارت بهذا الأمر موجوده

The Real fashioned them until He conceived them

within it; thus, through this act, they came into being.

فالعقل في كل شيء ظاهر أبداً

فالعقل في كل شيء ظاهر أبداً

بمقتضى الشيء يعطي نفسه جوده

بمقتضى الشيء يعطي نفسه جوده

Thus intellect is forever manifest in everything;

as each thing requires, its bounty bestows its very self.

وحقق القول أن الشيء منه له

وحقق القول أن الشيء منه له

رقيقة هي بالتحقيق ممدوده

رقيقة هي بالتحقيق ممدوده

And know this for certain: to each thing, from it,

a subtle thread is truly extended.

مثل الأشعة عنه الكل قد ظهروا

مثل الأشعة عنه الكل قد ظهروا

قبضاً وبسطاً ليبدي الكل مجهوده

قبضاً وبسطاً ليبدي الكل مجهوده

Like rays, all have appeared from it,

in contraction and expansion, so each might show its utmost effort.

إنا فتحنا عليهم باب معرفة

إنا فتحنا عليهم باب معرفة

وما سواه من الأبواب مسدوده

وما سواه من الأبواب مسدوده

Indeed, we have opened for them a gate of knowledge,

and every gate besides it is closed.
