    وخالقنا بالحسِّ يُعرَفُ والنقلِ

    Behold, the created is known only through reason;

And our Creator is known through sense-perception and transmitted tradition.

Yet they all know God through reason,

As they know creation through sense-perception and form.

If only they knew that what is in their minds

Is creation—rather, the Real is manifest to their senses,

Through His signs in everything, transcendent

Above the thing itself, since the thing vanishes from the whole.

Exalted and sublime is God above all that comes into being,

In essence and attribute—indeed, in name and act.

And God has commanded His servants: 'Say: Look!'

And that is with both eyes, in the original sense of seeing.

Yet they turned from it to their reason's speculations,

And believed as the philosophers of madness believed.

And reason is only for livelihood, for it is

For attending to clothing, and for drinking and eating.

    بها نشهدُ الآياتِ في العلْوِ والسفل

    And as for the five senses, they are for our Lord;

Through them we witness the signs in the heights and depths,

As stated in the Qur'an and the Sunnah, which

Comes from the Chosen One and beautifully guides those endowed with reason

To see the perceptible forms of His signs; so take up

Following the signs; it will make you sprout like green plants.

And you will behold God's action in His created beings,

And witness them as signs, recited in continuity.

And that is God's speech, and God recites

Eternal speech, without beginning or separation.

His letters appeared from us through our voices,

    Transcending sounds and corresponding letters.

And they existed while none of us did; and it is only

Knowledge, the light of the Essence, which He manifests like a shadow.

And the mystery of the Real's mysteries is exalted and sublime beyond

Resemblance to created beings, and 'after' and 'before'.

Yet we gesture toward our knowledge of Him,

And know that our knowledge is the brother of ignorance.
