I journeyed by night; there was neither rebuff nor hindrance there,

Until root and branch became equal to me.

And I am truly bewildered: my separation is union.

When I say, 'O God,' he says, 'Whom do you call upon?'

And if I do not call, he says, 'Will you not call?'

For love I have offered spirits and souls,

And I have taken good root in the garden of love.

I say—and how often I have said it in a gathering of nearness:

Indeed, he who was mute has won the delights,

And he who has no hearing has been singled out for comforts.
