1. تجلى وجه محبوبي

    وهذا كل مطلوبي

    My beloved's face shone forth,

    And this is all I seek.

  2. فيا نار العدا ذوبي

    بعيد عنك مشروبي

    So, O fire of enemies, melt away!

    My drink is far from you.

  3. جمال الأهيف الزاهي

    وحسن الأغيد الباهي

    The beauty of the radiant, slender-waisted one,

    And the beauty of the splendid, supple one—

  4. به صبري هو الواهي

    وموتي فيه مرغوبي

    Because of him, my patience is frail,

    And my death in him is what I desire.

  5. رأينا نوره أشرق

    فكنا برقه الأبرق

    We saw his light shine forth,

    So we became his gleaming lightning.

  6. ولا نجد ولا أبرق

    سوى الإبريق والكوب

    And there is neither Najd nor Abraq—

    Only the ewer and the cup.

  7. علينا الخمر قد دارت

    بها ألبابنا حارت

    The wine has gone round among us;

    Through it, our minds were bewildered.

  8. وأطيار الهوى طارت

    بترتيب وأسلوب

    And the birds of passion took flight,

    With order and style.

  9. مليح الكون وافانا

    وزاد الحسن إحسانا

    The universe's fair one came to us,

    And beauty grew in graciousness.

  10. وحيى يوسف الآنا

    فقرت عين يعقوب

    And Joseph has now come to life,

    So Jacob's eye was gladdened.

  11. وصلى ربنا الهادي

    على من شرف الوادي

    And may our Lord, the Guide, send blessings

    Upon the one who ennobled the valley.

  12. له عبد الغني الحادي

    بعشق فيه منسوب

    To him belongs Abd al-Ghani, the caravan singer,

    Bound by love for him.
