All that is other is but His closed door.

And all of us are His absolute object.

Nor are we a direct object, in our view,

Because we do not precede the act.

And we are indeed the meaning that His act

Brings forth when He creates us.

And a direct object is not made manifest

By the act; they have established its precedence.

And their claim, 'This is not a condition for it'—

Whoever speaks truth repels it with his breast.

Rather, every direct object is prior

To the act, certainly, for one who distinguishes.

And to anyone who denies this, say:

'Bring an example that holds in our view—

One that is a direct object with no

Precedence over the act that follows.'

Then, if he has attempted this with a word

That he brings into speech as he speaks,

Tell him: 'What we intend is not

    A word that speech brings us;

Rather, the meaning is what is intended by the one

Who speaks, and through it the Truth shines.'
