All of me is grace and generosity from You:

I am entirely from You a boon and existence

Forms that appear and disappear, and existence.

Images appear and disappear and existence

هذه جملة أمر واحد

هذه جملة أمر واحد

لا سواه عند غيب وشهود

لا سواه عند غيب وشهود

All these together are a single reality,

This is one command sentence

Nothing other than it, in concealment and manifestation.

None other with the Unseen and Witness

تارة يبدو ويخفى تارة

تارة يبدو ويخفى تارة

وهو إطلاق لدينا وقيود

وهو إطلاق لدينا وقيود

At times it appears, at times it is hidden,

Sometimes appears, sometimes disappears

And for us it is boundlessness and bonds.

And it is for us utter freedom, and restrictions

أيها الساري إليه وبه

أيها الساري إليه وبه

يقطع البيدا على ظهرِ قَعود

يقطع البيدا على ظهرِ قَعود

O night-traveler toward Him and through Him,

O You who flows to Him and by Him

Crossing the desert on a young camel's back,

Cutting through the deserts on the back of stillness

فرِّغِ القلبَ له من غيره

فرِّغِ القلبَ له من غيره

واجتليه بركوع وسجود

واجتليه بركوع وسجود

Empty your heart for Him of all but Him,

Empty the heart for Him from other

And behold Him through bowing and prostration.

And purify it with bowing and prostration

وتأمله به واسكن به

وتأمله به واسكن به

في حمى عزته بين الوفود

في حمى عزته بين الوفود

And contemplate Him through Him, and through Him find rest,

Contemplate Him through Him and dwell in Him

In the sanctuary of His might, among the delegations.

In the sanctuary of His might among the arrivals

عطفت سلمى على حلَّتها

عطفت سلمى على حلَّتها

وهي منها سدلت فوق النهود

وهي منها سدلت فوق النهود

Salma turned toward her robe,

Salma turned kindly to her cheek

And she let part of it fall over her breasts.

And from it she let down over the slender

ليتها ترفع عنا طرفاً

ليتها ترفع عنا طرفاً

لنرى الخال الذي فوق الخدود

لنرى الخال الذي فوق الخدود

If only she would lift an edge from before us,

If only she would lift from us a glance

So we might see the mole upon her cheeks.

That we may see the mole above the cheeks

وهو خالٌ أسودٌ وهو أنا

وهو خالٌ أسودٌ وهو أنا

في سنا طلعتها يشجي الأسود

في سنا طلعتها يشجي الأسود

And it is a black mole, and it is I;

A black mole, and it is I

In the radiance of her countenance, it makes lions pine.

In her radiant youth that stirs up passion

كم به أَصْمَتْ وكم أردت فتىً

كم به أَصْمَتْ وكم أردت فتىً

بوجوهٍ عنده بيض وسود

بوجوهٍ عنده بيض وسود

How many she struck dead with it, and how many a youth she laid low,

How by it I grew silent, and how I wished for a lad

With faces white and black in its presence.

With faces in His presence white and black

وهو وجه واحد صبغته

وهو وجه واحد صبغته

حكمها النافذ من غير نفود

حكمها النافذ من غير نفود

And it is a single face; its coloring

And it is one face colored

Is her decree, effective without exhaustion.

By His prevailing decree without refusal

لا تدع يا شوق مني أثراً

لا تدع يا شوق مني أثراً

للتي سرت بها سير الجدود

للتي سرت بها سير الجدود

Leave no trace of me, O longing,

Let no trace of me remain, O longing

For her through whom I journeyed as the forefathers did.

Of her by whom I walked the path of ancestors

شكرها شكري وحمدي حمدها

شكرها شكري وحمدي حمدها

وبها منها قيامي والقعود

وبها منها قيامي والقعود

Her gratitude is my gratitude, and my praise is her praise;

My thanks are hers, my praise His praise

And through her, from her, are my standing and sitting.

And by Her from Her my rising and sitting

ثمد الماء سقتنا وروت

ثمد الماء سقتنا وروت

وهدتنا لم تَقُلْ أمّا ثمود

وهدتنا لم تَقُلْ أمّا ثمود

She gave us scant water to drink and quenched our thirst;

She watered us and sated us from the flask

And guided us; she did not say, 'As for Thamud.'

And guided us, did not say 'Be gone O Thamud'

وبأرض الحِجْر لم تحجر على

وبأرض الحِجْر لم تحجر على

أمرها فينا فكنا قوم هود

أمرها فينا فكنا قوم هود

And in the land of al-Hijr she placed no restriction on

And in the land of stone she did not forbid us

Her command within us; thus we became the people of Hud.

Her command in us, so we were people of Hud

دأبنا حفظ المواثيق التي

دأبنا حفظ المواثيق التي

هي منا أخذتها والعهود

هي منا أخذتها والعهود

Our constant practice is to keep the covenants that

Our habit was keeping the covenants

She took from us, and the pledges.

Which she took from us and pacts

وهي فينا عن حدود خرجت

وهي فينا عن حدود خرجت

نحن فيها ما خرجنا عن حدود

نحن فيها ما خرجنا عن حدود

And within us she passed beyond bounds;

And she in us exceeded all bounds

In her, we have not passed beyond bounds.

While we in them did not exceed limits

قيدتنا بهدى أحكامها

قيدتنا بهدى أحكامها

وهي عنا انطلقت ليست تعود

وهي عنا انطلقت ليست تعود

She bound us with the guidance of her decrees,

She fettered us with the guidance of Her rulings

And she broke free from us, not returning.

And She from us broke free, She does not return

ما لنا عنها غناء أبداً

ما لنا عنها غناء أبداً

هل يقوم الظل من غير عمود

هل يقوم الظل من غير عمود

We can never do without her.

We have no life without Her, ever
