افتح عيونك في الآيات والسورِ

واحذر غرورك بالأشباح والصورِ

واحذر غرورك بالأشباح والصورِ

Open your eyes to the verses and the surahs.

Open your eyes to the signs and the chapters,

And beware of being deceived by phantoms and forms.

And beware your pride in phantoms and images.

واعلم بأن جميع الكون مغلطة

واعلم بأن جميع الكون مغلطة

واقبل على العين لا تقبل على الأثر

واقبل على العين لا تقبل على الأثر

And know that the whole cosmos is a deception.

Know that the whole universe is an illusion,

And turn toward the essence; do not turn toward the trace.

And turn to the Essence, do not turn to the trace.

إن التقلب للقلب الذي هو ما

إن التقلب للقلب الذي هو ما

بين الأصابع فيما صح في الأثر

بين الأصابع فيما صح في الأثر

Indeed, turning belongs to the heart, which lies

For the heart that lies between the fingers,

Between the fingers, as the authentic tradition relates.

Truly undergoes cycles as mentioned in accounts.

فتارة هو في غيبٍيحار به

فتارة هو في غيبٍيحار به

وتارة في شهود غير مستتر

وتارة في شهود غير مستتر

At times it is in the unseen, bewildered by it,

Sometimes bewildered in the Unseen,

And at times in witnessing, unconcealed.

Other times witnessing the Manifest.

ومنه لي نفس الرحمن منهبط

ومنه لي نفس الرحمن منهبط

لم يبق من جملتي شيئاً ولم يذر

لم يبق من جملتي شيئاً ولم يذر

And from it the breath of the All-Merciful descends to me;

From it my soul descended, the All-Merciful's breath,

It left nothing of my whole being, nor spared anything.

Nothing remains of my being, no trace left.

وزاد جسمي المسوَّى نفخُه طرباً

وزاد جسمي المسوَّى نفخُه طرباً

حتى تعشقت صوت الناي والوتر

حتى تعشقت صوت الناي والوتر

And His breathing heightened my well-fashioned body's rapture,

His blowing increased my ecstasy and joy,

Until I fell in love with the sound of the reed flute and the string.

Until I fell in love with the sound of flute and string.

وقد سمعت ومن بعض النداء أنا

وقد سمعت ومن بعض النداء أنا

صوت المنادي بإيمان على البشر

صوت المنادي بإيمان على البشر

And I have heard—and I am part of the call—

I heard a call, I became its echo, reverberating

The voice of the caller proclaiming faith to humankind.

The voice of the Herald bringing faith to mankind.

هو الوجود له منه الرسول أتى

هو الوجود له منه الرسول أتى

مبشراً ونذيراً صادق الخبر

مبشراً ونذيراً صادق الخبر

He is Being; for Him and from Him the Messenger came,

Existence itself, its Messenger came

A bearer of glad tidings and a warner, truthful in his report.

A bearer of good news and a warner, truthful in word.
