ظاهرْmanifest ومَنْand whoever يعشقُهْloves Him عنfrom رُؤْيِتُهْseeing Him محجوبْveiled
ظاهرْ ومَنْ يعشقُهْ عن رُؤْيِتُهْ محجوبْ
باطِنْhidden ومعناهْand His meaning لفظْthe word الكونْthe universe لَهُto it منسوبْascribed
باطِنْ ومعناهْ لفظْ الكونْ لَهُ منسوبْ
Manifest—yet whoever loves Him is veiled from seeing Him.
He is manifest, yet whoever loves Him is veiled from seeing Him.
Hidden—while the word “being,” with its meaning, is ascribed to Him.
He is hidden, and to His meaning the word ‘universe’ is ascribed.
ياO ذاyou الذيwho مِنْbecause of بِعادُهْseparation from Him مدمعُهْhis tears مسكوبْshed
يا ذا الذي مِنْ بِعادُهْ مدمعُهْ مسكوبْ
نفسَكْyour self حجابَكْyour veil أَمِتْهاput it to death تشهَدْyou will behold المطلوبْthe One sought
نفسَكْ حجابَكْ أَمِتْها تشهَدْ المطلوبْ
O you whose tears stream from separation from Him:
O you whose tears are shed through separation from Him,
Your self is your veil; put it to death, and you will behold the Sought One.
Your self is your veil; put it to death, and you will behold the One you seek.
