Sol 6.1

  1. هذه الكائنات أم هي حانَهْ

    أسكرتنا كؤوسها الملآنَهْ

    Are these created things, or are they a tavern?

    Its brimming cups have made us drunk.

  2. أم هو البرق برق نور التجلي

    خاطفٌ كلَّ من رأى لمعانَهْ

    Or is it lightning—the lightning of the light of self-manifestation,

    snatching away all who have seen its gleam?

  3. يا نديمي أعد عليَّ وكرر

    ذكر من غاب في ستور الصيانه

    O my drinking companion, repeat to me, and repeat again,

    the remembrance of him who vanished within veils of safekeeping.

  4. وجهه البدر لا بل الشمس حسناً

    لا عدمنا طول المدى إحسانه

    His face is the full moon—no, rather the sun in beauty.

    May we never lack his kindness throughout all time.

  5. سره دب في القلوب فهامت

    عندما شاهدت بها سريانه

    His secret crept into hearts, and they became love-mad,

    when they witnessed its coursing within them.

  6. ويذوب المحب فيه ويفنى

    كلما لاح كاشفاً أردانه

    And the lover melts in him and is annihilated,

    whenever he appears, uncovering his sleeves.

  7. واحد في القلوب وهو كثير

    في العيون اقتضى هداه الإبانه

    One in hearts, yet he is many

    in the eyes; his guidance has required disclosure.

  8. عرفته به السعاة إليه

    بنفوس في حبِّه ولهانه

    The seekers toward him knew him through him,

    with souls enraptured by love for him.

  9. ثم أفنت به النفوس وقامت

    بتجلِّي صفاته الفتّانه

    Then the souls effaced themselves through him and arose

    through the manifestation of his enchanting attributes.

  10. لا تقل غيره فذا قول من لم

    يتحققْ في غيره عرفانه

    Do not say 'other than him'; that is the saying of one who has not

    attained true knowledge of him in what is other than him.

  11. يختفي تارة ويظهر طوراً

    كيفما شاء لم يزل ذاك شانه

    He hides at one time and appears at another,

    however he wills; that has always been his way.

  12. يا وحيد الوجود نحن حيارى

    فيك فارفق بعصبةٍ حيرانه

    O sole One of Being, we are bewildered

    by you; so be gentle with a bewildered band.

  13. أينما أقبلوا رأوك جهاراً

    والتقى من شهودهم والأمانه

    Wherever they turn, they see you openly;

    and piety and trustworthiness arise from their witnessing.

  14. أهل صدق بسر سرك قاموا

    ولهم صولة به واستعانه

    People of sincerity, they stood through the secret of your secret,

    and through it they have might and seek aid.

  15. كلما أشرق الوجود عليهم

    فيه غابوا فشاهدوا رحمانه

    Whenever Being shines upon them,

    they vanish in it and behold its All-Merciful One.

  16. حفظوا العهد منه يوم ألستُمْ

    واستقاموا لا يعرفون الخيانه

    They kept the covenant from him on the day of 'Are you not?',

    and remained steadfast, knowing no betrayal.

  17. أمة أمَّتِ الفنا وترجَّت

    معه من بقائهم غفرانه

    A community that sought annihilation and hoped

    for his pardon of their continued existence with him.

  18. هم تجليه وانكشاف سناه

    عنده يدخلون منه جنانه

    They are his manifestation and the unveiling of his radiance;

    in his presence they enter, from him, his gardens.

  19. أسلموا يوم فتحِ مكَّتِهِ إذ

    كسروا من نفوسهم صلبانه

    They surrendered on the day of the opening of his Mecca, when

    they broke his crosses away from their souls.

  20. ههنا سر نشأةٍ كلُّ عبدٍ

    ذاق منه لم يستطع كتمانه

    Here is the secret of coming into being: every servant

    who has tasted of it has been unable to conceal it.

  21. وهو حق به تحقق كوني

    لا بسحر من السوى وكَهَانه

    And he is Truth; through him my being became real,

    not through magic from otherness, nor through divination.

  22. وهو قاض لنا ونحن شهود

    عندنا الشرع لم يزل ترجمانه

    And he is a judge for us, and we are witnesses;

    for us, sacred law has always been his interpreter.

  23. وعلى حضرة النبي نزلنا

    منه حتى بنا تلا قرآنه

    And we descended upon the Prophet's presence,

    from him, until through us he recited his Qur'an.

  24. حضرة النور وهي من حضرة النو

    ر ونحن النور الذي قد أبانه

    The presence of light, which is from the presence of the li—

    —ght; and we are the light that he has made manifest.

  25. إنني ظاهر به وخفيٌّ

    وفؤادي محقق هيمانه

    Indeed, I am manifest through him and hidden,

    and my heart has fully realized its rapturous love.

  26. كنت قرآنه بإجمال جمع

    وبتفصيل فرقه فرقانه

    I was his Qur'an in the summation of union,

    and, in the detailing of his differentiation, his Furqan.

  27. ولهذا شهدت جمعاً وفرقاً

    ذاته والصفات فيه ديانه

    And therefore I witnessed, in union and differentiation,

    his essence and the attributes in him, with devotion.
