سنةْ نبيْ مختارْ

سنةْ نبيْ مختارْ

فيها قيام الليلْ

فيها قيام الليلْ

A tradition of the chosen Prophet:

The year of the chosen prophet

Within it is prayer through the night.

In which standing in night prayer was long

طالت بها الأعمارْ

طالت بها الأعمارْ

تعطى القوى والحيلْ

تعطى القوى والحيلْ

Through it, lives have grown long;

Lifespans through it were extended

Strength and resourcefulness are granted.

Strength and abilities were granted

حوزوا بها أنوارْ

حوزوا بها أنوارْ

واحووا المنى والنيلْ

واحووا المنى والنيلْ

Gain lights through it,

Through it lights were attained

And attain wishes and fulfillment.

And wishes and the Nile were sought

صلوها يا أبرارْ

صلوها يا أبرارْ

عنكم يزول الويلْ

عنكم يزول الويلْ

Perform it in prayer, O righteous ones;

Pray it, O righteous ones

Woe will depart from you.

From you will go away sorrow

قد صدَّقَ الصدّيقْ

قد صدَّقَ الصدّيقْ

فيها أبو بكرِ

فيها أبو بكرِ

Indeed, al-Ṣiddīq affirmed the truth,

Al-Siddiq (Abu Bakr) indeed believed truthfully in it

Abu Bakr, concerning it;

The truthful one, without any doubt

واختص بالتحقيقْ

واختص بالتحقيقْ

حقاً بلا نكرِ

حقاً بلا نكرِ

And was distinguished by realization of truth,

From it came divine accord of contentment

Truly, without denial.

From the best of mention

عنه الرضى توفيقْ

عنه الرضى توفيقْ

من أفضل الذكرِ

من أفضل الذكرِ

Being pleased with him is divine grace,

So be content with a passionate heart

Among the finest forms of remembrance.

Inclining toward it

فارضوا بقلب شيقْ

فارضوا بقلب شيقْ

فيه إليه ميلْ

فيه إليه ميلْ

So be pleased with a yearning heart,

Al-Farooq (Umar) revived it

Within which is an inclination toward him.

The son of Al-Khattab the young man

أحيى لها الفاروقْ

أحيى لها الفاروقْ

نجل الفتى الخطابْ

نجل الفتى الخطابْ

Al-Fārūq gave life to it,

From his value came impediment

Son of the young man al-Khaṭṭāb,

Amongst the group of companions

من قدره العيّوقْ

من قدره العيّوقْ

في زمرة الأصحابْ

في زمرة الأصحابْ

Whose rank is as lofty as al-ʿAyyūq,

From it came spoken divine accord

Among the company of the Companions.

For the masters, the beloved

عنه الرضى منطوقْ

عنه الرضى منطوقْ

للسادة الأحبابْ

للسادة الأحبابْ

Approval of him is proclaimed

So be content with it, from it came restraining

To the beloved masters.

Pleased and walking smoothly

فارضوا فعنه النوقْ

فارضوا فعنه النوقْ

ترضى وتمشي سيلْ

ترضى وتمشي سيلْ

So be pleased, for with him the she-camels

Then Uthman took care

Are content and walk like a torrent.

Of this tradition

ثم اعتنى عثمانْ

ثم اعتنى عثمانْ

في هذه السنَّهْ

في هذه السنَّهْ

Then ʿUthmān devoted his care

From his presence came two lights

To this tradition,

From the greatest of bounties

من عنده نورانْ

من عنده نورانْ

من أعظم المنَّهْ

من أعظم المنَّهْ

He who possesses two lights,

He was distinguished with acceptance

From the greatest grace.

From it you will see paradise

خصوه بالرضوانْ

خصوه بالرضوانْ

عنه تروا الجنَّهْ

عنه تروا الجنَّهْ

Single him out for divine pleasure;

And Allah by the excellent deed

For his sake, you shall see Paradise.

Will fulfill for you in full measure

والله بالإحسانْ

والله بالإحسانْ

يوفى لكم في الكيلْ

يوفى لكم في الكيلْ

And God, in His goodness,

And be content with the oft-returning (Ali)

Will give you full measure.

The son-in-law and the cousin

وارضوا عن الكرارْ

وارضوا عن الكرارْ

والصهر وابن العمْ

والصهر وابن العمْ

And be pleased with al-Karrār,

Who was entrusted with secrets

The son-in-law and paternal cousin,

Possessor of abundant generosity

من خصَّ بالأسرارْ

من خصَّ بالأسرارْ

حاوي العطاء الجمْ

حاوي العطاء الجمْ

Who was singled out for mysteries,

Along with the group of the pure

Possessor of abundant bounty,

The family, companions and then

مع جملة الأطهارْ

مع جملة الأطهارْ

آل وصحب ثمْ

آل وصحب ثمْ

Along with all the pure ones—

The foremost saints

Family and Companions, then,

In them becomes long the tale

والأوليا الأخيارْ

والأوليا الأخيارْ

فيهم يطول الذيلْ

فيهم يطول الذيلْ

And the virtuous saints;

In speaking of them, the train stretches long.
