If God had created existence for creatures,

It would have been His like—and His like is a fabrication.

And nothing is like God, as

Has been stated in the Qur’an, for whoever has read.

And delusion in the minds inclines toward

The thought that existence is twofold—so it runs:

The existence of creation and the existence of a Creator.

This is sharing, and it is polytheism that is doubted.

And creation, all of it, is only nonexistence,

For which God determines a measure.

And all of them, in knowledge, are His postulates,

And His eternal knowledge is unbound.

And He has manifested Himself through the determinations that

He determined, all of them, and so appeared,

Transcendent and holy, beyond them and beyond

All that has taken form in the mind.

Thus He is true existence, manifest to us,

And hidden from those other than us, concealed.

For those other than us see His determination,

And do not see Him; they have neither seen nor known.

And every determination without a determiner

Is sheer impossibility in the minds of creatures.

And whoever fashions an image from nonexistence,

Then indeed he is its existence, which is seen.

But it is veiled from him by itself,

And knowledge reveals what has been established.

And for the deluded ignorant person, this is

Far-fetched; he went astray because of it and so denied it.

And we know the determinations that

The Creator determined—He who fashioned them.

And we are among their number, all of us,

And He is true existence—there is no doubt about it.

And indeed He is unseen, and we do not know Him,

And our inability to know Him has become clear to us.

So follow our path and speak as we speak,

If you seek our great master, the greatest.
