صفا الوجود فلا علم ولا عملُ

صفا الوجود فلا علم ولا عملُ

وإنما الكل أوهامٌ بها الخبلُ

Being has become pure: neither knowledge nor action remains.

And all is but illusions, in which lies madness.

تقدير مولاك يا هذا جميعك قد

تقدير مولاك يا هذا جميعك قد

بدا فكن ذائقاً قولي ولا زلل

بدا فكن ذائقاً قولي ولا زلل

Your Lord's decree, O you—your whole self—has indeed

appeared; so taste my words, and do not stumble.

قَشِّرْ وجودَكَ إنَّ القشرَ تأكُلُهُ

قَشِّرْ وجودَكَ إنَّ القشرَ تأكُلُهُ

دوابُّنا أنت قشرٌ أيها الرجل

دوابُّنا أنت قشرٌ أيها الرجل

Strip the husk from your being, for the husk is eaten by

our beasts; you are a husk, O man.

وعلمنا في أولي الألباب يعرفه

وعلمنا في أولي الألباب يعرفه

من قد تخفَّى بهم لما به جهلوا

من قد تخفَّى بهم لما به جهلوا

And our knowledge among those of understanding is known to

the one who hid himself within them when they knew him not.

تبارك الله لا حق سواه ولا

تبارك الله لا حق سواه ولا

لباطل أثر يدري به البطل

لباطل أثر يدري به البطل

Blessed is God! There is no reality but Him, nor

does falsehood have a trace the hero can discern.

يا من تصفَّى وجوداً خالصاً وبدا

يا من تصفَّى وجوداً خالصاً وبدا

مِنْ قشرِهِ إذ عليه كان يشتمل

مِنْ قشرِهِ إذ عليه كان يشتمل

O you who were refined into pure being and emerged

from its husk, which had once enveloped it.

قشرٌ هو العدمُ الموهوم ليس له

قشرٌ هو العدمُ الموهوم ليس له

أصلٌ وما ثم لا سهلٌ ولا جبل

أصلٌ وما ثم لا سهلٌ ولا جبل

A husk—it is imagined nonexistence, which has no

foundation; nothing is there, neither plain nor mountain.

لما رأى الصعقَ موسى كان ليس هنا

لما رأى الصعقَ موسى كان ليس هنا

موسى وقل جبل بالدك منجبل

موسى وقل جبل بالدك منجبل

When Moses experienced the swoon, there was here no

Moses; and say: a mountain molded by crushing.

نعم تصفَّيتَ من دعوى الوجود وقد

نعم تصفَّيتَ من دعوى الوجود وقد

فنيت فاصدق إذا ما كنت تحتمل

فنيت فاصدق إذا ما كنت تحتمل

Yes, you have been purified of the claim to being, and have

vanished; so be truthful, if ever you can endure.

أنت الذي هو أنت الكل أجمعهم

أنت الذي هو أنت الكل أجمعهم

لا كل لكن علينا ضاقت الحيل

لا كل لكن علينا ضاقت الحيل

You are the one who is you—the whole, all of them;

no whole—but our means have failed us.
