لهب النار في الفتيلة كالرو

ح لدى الجسم والغذا كالزيت

ح لدى الجسم والغذا كالزيت

The flame of fire in the wick is like the spi—

The flame's blaze in the wick is like the soul

—rit in the body, and nourishment is like oil.

In the body, and food is like oil

والذي يحرق الفتيلة منها

والذي يحرق الفتيلة منها

في لهيب كالنفس ذات الصيت

في لهيب كالنفس ذات الصيت

And that part of it which burns the wick

That which burns the wick from it

in a blaze is like the self endowed with renown.

In a blaze like the renowned soul

إن أزالوه أشرق النور حساً

إن أزالوه أشرق النور حساً

فأضاءت به جهات البيت

فأضاءت به جهات البيت

If they remove it, the light shines visibly,

If they removed it, the light shone perceptibly

and the quarters of the house are illumined by it.

And with it the house's sides lit up

وإذا أهملوه زاد سواداً

وإذا أهملوه زاد سواداً

وعلا النور ظلمة التفويت

وعلا النور ظلمة التفويت

And if they neglect it, it grows blacker,

And if they neglected it, the darkness increased

and the darkness of neglect overshadows the light.

And over the light rose the darkness of loss

فاعتبر أيها المريد وصولاً

فاعتبر أيها المريد وصولاً

لجناب المحيي لنا والمميت

لجناب المحيي لنا والمميت

So take heed, O seeker, that you may reach

So take heed, O disciple, of attaining

the presence of Him who gives us life and causes death.
