ذو العلم قصر مشيد ليس ينهدمُ

ذو العلم قصر مشيد ليس ينهدمُ

بئرٌ معطلةٌ ذو الجهل مرتدمُ

بئرٌ معطلةٌ ذو الجهل مرتدمُ

The man of knowledge is a lofty palace that does not collapse.

The one with knowledge, a built palace that does not collapse

The ignorant man is a disused well, filled in.

An overflowing well, the one with ignorance, a demolished building

والقرب من خالق الأكوان معرفة

والقرب من خالق الأكوان معرفة

بها قلوب ذويها فيه تأتدمُ

بها قلوب ذويها فيه تأتدمُ

And nearness to the Creator of the worlds is knowledge

And being close to the Creator of the universes is knowledge

through which the hearts of those who possess it are nourished in Him.

With it the hearts of its people in Him blaze

ما الزهد إلا مقام السالكين إلى

ما الزهد إلا مقام السالكين إلى

قرب الإله لهم يعلو به قدم

قرب الإله لهم يعلو به قدم

Renunciation is only the station of wayfarers toward

What is asceticism but the state of the wayfarers to

nearness to God; through it, they rise a step.

The closeness of God, for them it elevates their steps

وكيف يمكن زهد لامرئٍ نظرت

وكيف يمكن زهد لامرئٍ نظرت

عيناه أن جميع الكون منعدم

عيناه أن جميع الكون منعدم

And how can renunciation be possible for one whose

And how can there be asceticism for a man whose gaze

eyes have seen that the whole universe is nonexistent?

His eyes see that the whole universe is nonexistent

لكنه ثابت يعني فليس له

لكنه ثابت يعني فليس له

نفيٌ بإثبات قولٍ وصفُهُ القدم

نفيٌ بإثبات قولٍ وصفُهُ القدم

Yet it is established—that is what is meant—so it admits no

But He is everlasting, meaning; so for Him there is no

negation through affirming a statement whose attribute is beginninglessness.

Denying with an affirming saying, described by the Ancient

وإنما الكل بالحق المبين لهم

وإنما الكل بالحق المبين لهم

بانوا وبنيانهم لولاه منهدم

بانوا وبنيانهم لولاه منهدم

And only through the Truth manifest to them have all

And all things with the Evident Truth for them

appeared; without Him, their edifice would lie in ruins.

Appeared, and their structure without Him demolished

فهو الوجود الذي لا غيره أبداً

فهو الوجود الذي لا غيره أبداً

وهم تقاديره المخدوم والخدم

وهم تقاديره المخدوم والخدم

Thus He is Being, and there is never anything other than Him;

So He is the existence that none other forever

and they are His determinations—the one served and the servants.

And they are His ordinations, the served and the servant

وواحد هو في ذات وفي وصفة

وواحد هو في ذات وفي وصفة

ومطلق وقيود لحمهم ودم

ومطلق وقيود لحمهم ودم

And He is one in essence and in attribute,

And One He is in essence and in attribute

and absolute; their flesh and blood are fetters.

Absolute and restrictions on their flesh and blood

والواصلون إليه قائمون به

والواصلون إليه قائمون به

فهو الوجود لهم بالوهم ينعدم

فهو الوجود لهم بالوهم ينعدم

And those who reach Him subsist through Him;

And those connected to Him standing by Him

thus He is Being for them, vanishing through illusion.

So He is the existence for them; by delusion perishing

وليس شيء مع الحق المبين وهل

وليس شيء مع الحق المبين وهل

مع الوجود سواه والسوى عدم

مع الوجود سواه والسوى عدم

And nothing is alongside the manifest Truth; is there anything

And nothing is with the Evident Truth. Is there

alongside Being other than Him? All else is nothingness.

With existence other than Him? And the equal is nonexistence.
