إن هذا زمن الأمر العسيرْ

إن هذا زمن الأمر العسيرْ

ما خلا من شره كل العشيرْ

ما خلا من شره كل العشيرْ

Indeed, this is an age of hardship.

This is a time of great hardship

No companion has been spared its evil.

Spared from none of its evils, the whole clan

حسَّنوا القول وقالوا واحد

حسَّنوا القول وقالوا واحد

ما له ثانٍ هو الله الكبير

ما له ثانٍ هو الله الكبير

They adorned their speech and said: 'He is One;

They spoke well and said as one

He has no second: He is God the Great.'

None compares to God, the Almighty

صدقوا في قولهم لا في الذي

صدقوا في قولهم لا في الذي

عندهم في باطن الأمر شهير

عندهم في باطن الأمر شهير

They spoke truth in their words, not in what

Truthful were they in their words, not in what

is well known to them in the inward reality of the matter.

Lies hidden for them inside, well known

إنهم في الحس والعقل إذا

إنهم في الحس والعقل إذا

أبصروا أو أدركوا قالوا كثير

أبصروا أو أدركوا قالوا كثير

For in sense perception and reason, whenever

For if by senses or mind

they see or comprehend, they say: 'Many.'

They saw or comprehended, they said a lot

جعلوه اثنين عنهم واحد

جعلوه اثنين عنهم واحد

غائب والآخر الجم الغفير

غائب والآخر الجم الغفير

They made Him two: one, away from them,

Made Him two; one absent from them

is absent; the other is the teeming multitude.

And the other, the Perfect, the Most High

والذي وحَّده ألحد في

والذي وحَّده ألحد في

زعمهم ما إن له منهم تصير

زعمهم ما إن له منهم تصير

And whoever declared Him One fell into heresy, in

And He who made Him one, in

their view; he has no [supporter?] among them.

Their view, has no place among them

أصل هذا أنهم يعتقدو

أصل هذا أنهم يعتقدو

ن سوى الله بتأثير يصير

ن سوى الله بتأثير يصير

The root of this is that they believe

The root of this is their belief

something besides God comes to exercise causal power.

That other than God has effect and power

وهو جزء اختياريٌّ لهم

وهو جزء اختياريٌّ لهم

حققوه وإلى الله المصير

حققوه وإلى الله المصير

And it is a share of free choice belonging to them,

And it's their choice, made by them

which they affirm; and to God is the return.

Realized it is, and to God is the return

وتراهم يعبدون الله مع

وتراهم يعبدون الله مع

طلب المال به المال الحقير

طلب المال به المال الحقير

And you see them worship God while

You see them worship God while

seeking wealth through Him—that paltry wealth.

Seeking money through it, how mean

ولهذا ما له من عابد

ولهذا ما له من عابد

عندهم إلا وبالمال يشير

عندهم إلا وبالمال يشير

And so He has no worshipper

Thus no worshipper do they have

among them who does not point toward wealth.

Who doesn't hint to money, it's clear

فالعبادات جميعا خلطوا

فالعبادات جميعا خلطوا

ها بتحصيل عسير ويسير

ها بتحصيل عسير ويسير

Thus they have mingled all acts of worship

So all acts of worship they mixed

with gain, difficult and easy to obtain.

With attainment of easy and hard

أين أين المخلصون استمعوا

أين أين المخلصون استمعوا

يا رفاقي واتركوا الشرك المبير

يا رفاقي واتركوا الشرك المبير

Where, where are the sincere? Listen,

Where, where are the sincere - listen

O my companions, and forsake the ruinous association of partners with God.

My friends, and leave the blatant idolatry

وإلى الله ارجعوا واستغفروا

وإلى الله ارجعوا واستغفروا

ربكم مما به نار السعير

ربكم مما به نار السعير

And return to God, and seek forgiveness

And to God return and ask forgiveness

from your Lord for what brings the blazing fire.

From your Lord for what leads to hellfire

إنما قد أمروا أن يعبدوا

إنما قد أمروا أن يعبدوا

مخلصين الدين في قول القدير

مخلصين الدين في قول القدير

They were commanded only to worship Him,

They were ordered to worship

with devotion solely His, in the All-Powerful's words.

With sincerity the religion, said the Able

وألا لله دين خالص

وألا لله دين خالص

هو معنى قوله وهو الخبير

هو معنى قوله وهو الخبير

And behold: to God belongs pure devotion.

And that to God belongs a pure faith

That is the meaning of His saying, and He is the All-Aware.

Such is the meaning of His word, the All-Aware
