دنا كل المنى
لما دنا بالمنحنى
All wishes drew near
when he drew near at the bend.
أواه ممن خلف الستور
يا ليته لو لنا يزور
Ah, for the one behind the veils!
Oh, if only he would visit us!
أنا له أنا
ما ههنا إلا العنا
I—I am his.
There is nothing here but suffering.
من يجليه امتلا سرور
عشقي له النار وهو نور
Whoever he illumines is filled with joy.
My love for him is fire, while he is light.
لنا هذا البنا
لما اعتنى تكونا
This edifice is ours;
when he bestowed his care, it took form.
لولاك يا صاحب الحضور
ما أشرقت في الدجى بدور
Were it not for you, O master of presence,
no full moons would have shone in the darkness.
جنى فرط الهنا
نهب الضنا ملقى العنا
He reaped surpassing bliss,
a prey to wasting sickness, cast down by suffering,
متيم عشقه يجور
عليه في ربة الخدور
a love-enslaved man whose passion tyrannizes
over him, for the mistress of secluded chambers.
علا عن الملا
باهى الحلى لما حلا
He rose above the throng;
he vied with ornaments when he grew lovely.
جماله حير العقول
له على قلوبنا نزول
His beauty bewildered minds.
He alights upon our hearts.
جلا كأس الطلا
لما تلا قالوا بلى
He unveiled the cup of wine;
when he recited, they said, 'Yes.'
يا سعد من فاز بالوصول
وصار فيه به يصول
Oh, the good fortune of one who attained union!
And came to wield power in him, through him.
هلا يا من إلى
ذاك الفلى تنقلا
Come now, O you who toward
that wilderness have journeyed:
كن باسمه الحق في حصول
تجد فروعاً لها أصول
Be in a state of attainment through his name, the Real;
you will find branches that have roots.
ألا صلّى على
تاج الولا من اعتلى
Lo, may blessings be bestowed upon
the crown of devotion by the one who rose high.
عبد الغني سلم الأمور
لمن عليه الرحى تدور
Abd al-Ghani entrusted his affairs
to the one around whom the millstone turns.
