شكرت إلهي باللسان تعبُّدا

شكرت إلهي باللسان تعبُّدا

وبالقلب والأركان مني تقصُّدا

وبالقلب والأركان مني تقصُّدا

I thanked my God with my tongue in worship,

With my tongue I thanked my God as an act of worship

And with my heart and limbs, with deliberate intent.

And with my heart and limbs sincerely intended

فأشهدني شكري له نعمة بدت

فأشهدني شكري له نعمة بدت

ونعمة إشهادي تلتها لأشهدا

ونعمة إشهادي تلتها لأشهدا

Then my gratitude to Him made me witness a blessing that appeared;

So bear me witness, my gratitude for His blessing revealed

And the blessing of my being made to witness followed it, so I might witness.

And my bearing witness, another blessing followed to bear witness

فأعجزني عن شكر نعماه دائماً

فأعجزني عن شكر نعماه دائماً

فصيرت شكري عنه عجزي على المدى

فصيرت شكري عنه عجزي على المدى

Thus I was made forever unable to give thanks for His bounty;

So His eternal blessings left me incapable of thanking Him

So I made my inability to offer it my gratitude, for all time.

Thus my gratitude to Him was forever deficient

وشاهدت عجزي منه أكبر نعمة

وشاهدت عجزي منه أكبر نعمة

وذا القول إنعاماً أراه تجددا

وذا القول إنعاماً أراه تجددا

And I saw my inability, coming from Him, as the greatest blessing;

And I saw my incapacity as His greatest blessing

And I see this saying as a favor renewed.

And this saying, I see as a renewal of His bounty

فقلت إلهي لست أحصى لك الثنا

فقلت إلهي لست أحصى لك الثنا

فكن أنت عني شاكراً لك سرمدا

فكن أنت عني شاكراً لك سرمدا

So I said, “My God, I cannot reckon all the praise due to You;

So I said, my God, I cannot fully thank You

So You Yourself, on my behalf, give thanks to Yourself forever.”

So You be, for me, ever thanking Yourself eternally
