The night of this Decree is the night of union;

The night of power, the night of assembly

In my sight is a witness, and in my hearing,

In my vision a witness, and in my hearing

من غير فرق لدى بصائرنا

من غير فرق لدى بصائرنا

بين جماد وبين ذي لمع

بين جماد وبين ذي لمع

Without distinction to our inner sight

Without distinction in our insights

Between the lifeless and that which gleams.

Between inanimate and luminous being

ذا القدر ذاك الذي الضمير له

ينزل من غيبه إلى الجمع

ينزل من غيبه إلى الجمع

This Decree is that to which the pronoun refers;

The night of power, it whom the conscience is for

It descends from its unseen realm into union.

Descends from its unseen realm to the assembly

وكل من نفسه يشاهدها

وكل من نفسه يشاهدها

فيه يرى صورة من الشمع

فيه يرى صورة من الشمع

And everyone who beholds his own self

And all whose soul beholds it

In it sees a form made of wax.

Sees in it an image of candlelight

حقيقة أضحكت أحبتها

حقيقة أضحكت أحبتها

والغير أبكته زائد الهمع

والغير أبكته زائد الهمع

A reality that made its lovers laugh,

The truth has smiled, her beloved ones

And made the other weep, with tears overflowing.

While the others it made weep, intense in grief

فدمعة في السرور باردة

فدمعة في السرور باردة

وفي الأسى الحر كان في الدمع

وفي الأسى الحر كان في الدمع

For a tear of joy is cool,

So a tear in joy is cool

And in sorrow, heat was in the tears.

And in sorrow, hot in the tears
