بدا بدر الدياجي

فأفنى الكل نوره

فأفنى الكل نوره

The full moon of the dark nights appeared,

The full moon rose

So his light annihilated all.

And with its light, all was effaced

ولم يكتم ظهوري

ولم يكتم ظهوري

به إلا ظهوره

به إلا ظهوره

And nothing concealed my manifestation

Yet my appearance was not concealed

Through him except his own manifestation.

Except by its appearance

وما باثنين كنا

وما باثنين كنا

ولكن ذا غروره

ولكن ذا غروره

And we were not two,

We were not two beings

But this is his deception.

Though one seemed proud

One existence, not

The existence of the One

Made two by its coming to mind.

Is not bent by dangers

له أمر قديم

له أمر قديم

به تبدو الحوادث

به تبدو الحوادث

His is an eternal command,

To Him belongs an ancient command

Through which contingent things appear.

By which events come into being

وذاك الأمر عنه

وذاك الأمر عنه

به أبدا نباحث

به أبدا نباحث

And concerning that command,

That command, from Him

Through him we ever inquire.

We never dispute

فحقق منك نفساً

فحقق منك نفساً

تجد فيها صدوره

تجد فيها صدوره

So discern a soul within yourself;

So examine your own soul

You will find its emanation within it.

There you find His manifestations

Made two by its coming to mind.

Is not bent by dangers

رأينا وجه سلمى

رأينا وجه سلمى

فصار الكل فاني

فصار الكل فاني

We saw Salma's face,

We saw the face of Salma

So all passed away.

So all else perished

وفيها حيَّرتنا

وفيها حيَّرتنا

بأصوات المثاني

بأصوات المثاني

And in her you bewildered us

And by it we were confused

With the sounds of the lute strings.

By voices of longing

وقد لاحت جهاراً

وقد لاحت جهاراً

لمن يحلو مروره

لمن يحلو مروره

And she has indeed appeared openly

And openly it dawned

To one whose passing is sweet.

Upon whom its passing was sweet

Is not bent by dangers

صدقتم يا رفاقي

صدقتم يا رفاقي

جميع الناس تاهوا

جميع الناس تاهوا

You spoke truly, my companions:

You spoke truly, my friends

All people have lost their way.

All the people went astray

وهذا الوجه يجلى

وهذا الوجه يجلى

فأين الإشتباه

فأين الإشتباه

And this face is unveiled—

And this face shines clearly

So where is the confusion?

Where is there doubt?

ولكن من يعاني

ولكن من يعاني

كلامي نفخ صوره

كلامي نفخ صوره

But whoever grapples with

But whoever suffers

My words has blown his trumpet.

My words, mere sound's breath

Is not bent by dangers

صلاة الله ربي

صلاة الله ربي

على طه الممجد

على طه الممجد

The blessing of God, my Lord,

Prayer of God, my Lord

Be upon Taha, the glorified,

Upon Taha, the Glorious

ومن بالفضل فينا

ومن بالفضل فينا

مدى الدنيا مؤيد

مدى الدنيا مؤيد

And upon whoever among us, by grace,

And by grace to us

Is sustained as long as this world endures.

All realms of life, supporter

به عبد الغني

به عبد الغني

لقد ولى نفوره

لقد ولى نفوره

Through him, Abd al-Ghani—

By it, servant enriched

His aversion has indeed departed.

Indeed, aversion has passed
