فانجلى الأمر بحكم النظرِ

A sun of revelation appeared in my moon,

The sun of inspiration rose in my moon,

So the matter became clear by virtue of vision.

So the matter became clear by the rule of sight.

أمر حق ليس فيه باطل

أمر حق ليس فيه باطل

إنما الباطل كل الصور

إنما الباطل كل الصور

A true matter, with no falsehood in it;

A rightful matter in which there is no falsehood,

Falsehood is all the forms, and nothing else.

Falsehood is but all forms.

ثم غاب الأمر عني واختفى

ثم غاب الأمر عني واختفى

في وجود ظاهر للبصر

في وجود ظاهر للبصر

Then the matter vanished from me and lay hidden

Then the matter disappeared from me and vanished,

In an existence manifest to sight—

In the existence of what is apparent to the eye.

بصر العارف لا العاقل لا

بصر العارف لا العاقل لا

صاحب الحس ولا ذى الفكر

صاحب الحس ولا ذى الفكر

The knower’s sight, not the reasoner’s, not

The eye of the knower, not the rational,

That of the possessor of sense perception, nor of the possessor of thought.

Nor the sensory, nor the thoughtful.

كل شيء صورة مرسومة

كل شيء صورة مرسومة

في خيال مطلق منحصر

في خيال مطلق منحصر

Everything is a drawn form,

Everything is an imagined form,

Confined within absolute imagination.

In an absolute imagination confined.

والخيال المطلق النفس التي

والخيال المطلق النفس التي

سميت باللوح لوح القدر

سميت باللوح لوح القدر

And absolute imagination is the soul that

And the absolute imagination is the soul,

Was called the Tablet, the Tablet of Destiny.

Named the Tablet, the Tablet of Destiny.

وهي نفس الروح روح الأمر أي

وهي نفس الروح روح الأمر أي

أمر رب خالق للأثر

أمر رب خالق للأثر

And it is the soul of the spirit—the spirit of the command, that is,

It is the soul of the spirit, the spirit of the matter,

The command of a Lord who creates the effect.

The matter of the Lord, Creator of effects.

أثر فان دعوه تقفوا

أثر فان دعوه تقفوا

موقف العرفان بين البشر

موقف العرفان بين البشر

A transient effect—leave it, and you will stand

Effects, if you call them, stand

At the station of gnosis among humankind.

In the position of gnosis among people.

هو لا نحن ولا أنت ولا

هو لا نحن ولا أنت ولا

كل ما ندركه فاقتصر

كل ما ندركه فاقتصر

He—not we, nor you, nor

He, not us, nor you, nor

Anything we perceive—so go no further.

All that we perceive, so stop.
