Be with God, and you will see God with you.

Be with God, you will see God with you,

And leave everything else, and beware of your greed.

And leave all behind and beware your greed,

والزم القنع بمن أنت له

والزم القنع بمن أنت له

في جميع الكون حتى يسعك

في جميع الكون حتى يسعك

Hold fast to contentment with Him to whom you belong

And adhere to contentment with the One you belong to,

throughout all existence, until He encompasses you.

In the whole universe, so it can accommodate you.

بالصفا عن كدر الحس فغب

بالصفا عن كدر الحس فغب

واطرح الأغيار واترك خدعك

واطرح الأغيار واترك خدعك

So, through purity, withdraw from the murk of the senses.

With clarity, leave the muddiness of senses,

Cast off all else, and abandon your deceits.

And abandon strangers and leave your tricks.

لا تموِّهْ بك واطلب منك ما

لا تموِّهْ بك واطلب منك ما

فرَّ من يوم بشأن ضيعك

فرَّ من يوم بشأن ضيعك

Do not dissemble about yourself; seek within yourself what

Do not pretend with yourself, and seek from yourself what

fled one day when some concern made you lose yourself.

Escaped from a day regarding your loss.

نورك الله به كن مشرقاً

نورك الله به كن مشرقاً

واحذر الأضداد تطفي شُمَعك

واحذر الأضداد تطفي شُمَعك

Your light is God; through Him be radiant.

May God enlighten you with it, be radiant,

And beware of opposites that extinguish your candles.

And beware opposites that extinguish your candle.

ثم ضع نفسك بالذل له

ثم ضع نفسك بالذل له

قبل أن النفس قهراً تَضَعَكْ

قبل أن النفس قهراً تَضَعَكْ

Then lay your soul low in humility before Him,

Then put yourself in humility to Him,

before your soul forcibly brings you low.

Before the self forcibly puts you down.

واعبد الله بكشف واصطبر

واعبد الله بكشف واصطبر

وعلى الكشف توقَّى جزعك

وعلى الكشف توقَّى جزعك

And worship God with unveiling, and persevere.

And worship God with revelation and perseverance,

And concerning unveiling, guard against your impatience.

And in revelation be wary of your despair.

لا تقل لم يفتح الله ولا

لا تقل لم يفتح الله ولا

تطلب الفتح وحرِّر ورعك

تطلب الفتح وحرِّر ورعك

Do not say, "God has not granted an opening," nor

Do not say God did not open, and do not

seek the opening; purify your piety.

Seek the opening and liberate your piety.

كيفما شاء فكن في يده

كيفما شاء فكن في يده

لك إن فرَّق أو إن جمعك

لك إن فرَّق أو إن جمعك

However He wills, be in His hand,

However He wills, so be in His hand,

whether He scatters you or gathers you.

For you, whether He separates or gathers you.

في الورى إن شاء خفضاً ذقته

في الورى إن شاء خفضاً ذقته

وإذا شاء عليهم رفعك

وإذا شاء عليهم رفعك

Among humankind, if He wills abasement, you taste it;

In the world, if He wills abasement you will taste it,

and if He wills, He raises you above them.

And if He wills elevation over them for you.

وإذا ضرك لا نافع من

وإذا ضرك لا نافع من

دونه والضر لا إن نفعك

دونه والضر لا إن نفعك

And if He harms you, no one can help you

And if harm hurts you, none benefits

besides Him; and there is no harm if He benefits you.

Beside Him, and no harm if it benefits you.

وإذا أعطاك من يمنعه

وإذا أعطاك من يمنعه

ثم من يعطي إذا ما منعك

ثم من يعطي إذا ما منعك

And if He gives to you, who can restrain Him?

And if He gives you, who can prevent Him,

Then who can give if He withholds from you?

Then who can give if He prevents you?

ليس يوقيك أذاه أحد

ليس يوقيك أذاه أحد

وإن استنصرت فيه شيَّعك

وإن استنصرت فيه شيَّعك

No one shields you from His harm,

No one can protect you from His harm,

and if you seek help concerning it, he bids you farewell.

Even if you seek help from your supporters.

إنما أنت له عبد فكن

إنما أنت له عبد فكن

جاعلاً في القرب منه ولعك

جاعلاً في القرب منه ولعك

You are only His servant, so be

You are only His servant, so be

one whose passion lies in nearness to Him.

Making your passion to be near Him.

فز بوصل إن تراه واصلاً

فز بوصل إن تراه واصلاً

واقبل القطع إذا ما قطعك

واقبل القطع إذا ما قطعك

Gain union if you see Him drawing near;

So obtain connection, if you see Him connected,

and accept severance when He cuts you off.

And accept the severance if He severs you.

كلما نابك أمر ثق به

كلما نابك أمر ثق به

واحترز للغير تشكو وجعك

واحترز للغير تشكو وجعك

Whenever a matter befalls you, trust in Him,

Whenever a matter changes, trust in Him,

and beware of complaining of your pain to others.

And beware others, complaining of your pain.

لا تؤمل من سواه أملاً

لا تؤمل من سواه أملاً

إنما يسقيك من قد زرعك

إنما يسقيك من قد زرعك

Place no hope in anyone but Him;

Do not hope from other than Him any hope,

only He who planted you waters you.

For only He who planted you can water you.

ليت لو تشعر ماذا كنت من

ليت لو تشعر ماذا كنت من

قبل ما مولى الموالي اخترعك

قبل ما مولى الموالي اخترعك

Would that you knew what you were

If only you feel what you were

before the Master of masters brought you into being.

Before the Master of masters invented you!

كنت لا شيء وأصبحت به

كنت لا شيء وأصبحت به

خير شيء بشراً قد طبعك

خير شيء بشراً قد طبعك

You were nothing, and through Him became

You were nothing and through Him you became

the best of things: He fashioned you as a human.

The best of things human He characterized you.

تابعاً كن دائماً أنت ولا

تابعاً كن دائماً أنت ولا

تتمنى أنه لو تبعك

تتمنى أنه لو تبعك

Always be a follower yourself, and do not

Always be a follower, you, and do not

wish that He would follow you.

Wish that He would follow you.

لمتى تبني كنيسات الهوى

لمتى تبني كنيسات الهوى

كسِّر الصلبان واهجر بيعك

كسِّر الصلبان واهجر بيعك

How long will you build the churches of desire?

For how long will you build churches of passion?

Break the crosses and abandon your churches.

Destroy the crucifixes and abandon your sale.

ودع التدبير في الأمر له

ودع التدبير في الأمر له

واصنع المعروف مع من صنعك

واصنع المعروف مع من صنعك

And leave the ordering of affairs to Him,

And leave the arrangement in the matter to Him,

and act rightly toward the One who made you.

And do good with those who did good to you.

واحتفظ حرمة من يبصر إن

واحتفظ حرمة من يبصر إن

رمت فعلاً أو تنادي سَمِعَك

رمت فعلاً أو تنادي سَمِعَك

And preserve the reverence due to Him who sees when

And keep inviolable whom you see, if

you intend a deed, or hears you when you call.

You cast an act or call out your hearing.

وهو الله الذي جل فيا

وهو الله الذي جل فيا

عقل خف من عدمٍ مبتدعك

عقل خف من عدمٍ مبتدعك

And He is God, the Exalted; so, O

And He is The God Who is Majestic in

intellect, fear Him who created you from nothing.

The mind, so humble yourself, originated you.

كن به معتصماً واسلم له

كن به معتصماً واسلم له

لا تعاند فيه واهجر بدعك

لا تعاند فيه واهجر بدعك

Take refuge in Him, and surrender to Him.

Be steadfast in Him and submit to Him,

Do not be obstinate concerning Him; abandon your innovations.

Do not resist in Him and abandon your innovation.

هذه ملة طه خذ بها

هذه ملة طه خذ بها

لا تطع عنها قصوراً دفعك

لا تطع عنها قصوراً دفعك

This is Taha's faith; hold fast to it.

This is the path of Ta-Ha, take it,

Do not heed a failing that drives you away from it.

Do not obey those who repel you from it.
