The soul’s repentance in love is to die,
Repentance of the soul in passion is to die
So she attains her wishes and gains sustenance.
To attain the wish and gain strength
تخذتهاshe took her مليحةthe fair one of الكونthe cosmos ستراًa veil
تخذتها مليحة الكون ستراً
مسدلاًdrawn down عندin the eyes of غيرهاothers than her ممقوتاloathed
مسدلاً عند غيرها ممقوتا
The fair one of the cosmos took her as a veil,
She made it a veil, the beauty of the universe
Drawn down, loathed by those other than her.
Lowered before others, despised
تتجلىreveal themselves بهاthrough her الغيوبthe unseen mysteries عليهاto her
تتجلى بها الغيوب عليها
فتنيرso she illumines اللاهوتthe divine realm والناسوتاand the human realm
فتنير اللاهوت والناسوتا
Through her, unseen mysteries reveal themselves to her,
Through it the unseen is revealed to her
So she illumines the divine and human realms.
Enlightening the Godhead and humanity
تظهرappears الذاتthe Essence خلفهاbehind her بصفاتwith attributes
تظهر الذات خلفها بصفات
هيthey كانتwere صفاتهاher attributes والنعوتاand the epithets
هي كانت صفاتها والنعوتا
The Essence appears behind her with attributes
The essence appears behind it with attributes
That were her attributes and epithets.
That were its attributes and qualities
تاهwent astray قومsome people فحاولواso they tried الكشفthe unveiling عنهاof her
تاه قوم فحاولوا الكشف عنها
بقواهاthrough her powers فأثبتوهاso they affirmed her ثبوتاfirmly
بقواها فأثبتوها ثبوتا
Some people went astray and tried to unveil her
Lost are the people who tried to uncover it
Through her powers, and so firmly affirmed her existence.
With their powers, proving it firmly
تبعواthey followed العقلreason فاختفىso it became hidden السرthe secret لماwhen
تبعوا العقل فاختفى السر لما
أبدلواthey substituted منin place of داودهاher David جالوتاGoliath
أبدلوا من داودها جالوتا
They followed reason, and the secret became hidden when
They followed the mind, so the secret was lost
They replaced her David with Goliath.

تلكthat one لوhad حاولواthey sought الفناannihilation وجدوهاthey would have found her
تلك لو حاولوا الفنا وجدوها
شبحاًa phantom فيin ظهورهاher manifestation منحوتاcarved
شبحاً في ظهورها منحوتا
That one—had they sought annihilation, they would have found her
If only they had tried self-annihilation, they would have found it
A carved phantom in her manifestation.

A date grown sweet, and purifying water—
A ripe date and purifying water
They do not smell her pulverized musk.
Whose melted musk they cannot sense
تبهرshe dazzles العقلreason إنif أميطتshe is drawn aside فزالتso she falls away
تبهر العقل إن أميطت فزالت
عنfrom سناthe radiance of وجههاher face الذيwhich لنwill not يفوتاfade away
عن سنا وجهها الذي لن يفوتا
She dazzles reason if she is drawn aside and falls away
It dazzles the mind when unveiled, so it disappears
From the radiance of her face, which will never fade.
From the radiance of its face that will never fade
تبتperished العصبةthe band التيthat جهلتهاdid not know her
تبت العصبة التي جهلتها
فأرتهمso she showed them بسحرهاthrough her magic هاروتاHarut
فأرتهم بسحرها هاروتا
Doomed is the band that did not know her;
