With a loyal spirit came
لاnot طبعnature جسمbody شمالleft
لا طبع جسم شمال
وجهلand ignorance نفسsoul يمينِright
وجهل نفس يمينِ
not with bodily nature on the left
No imprint of a northerly body
nor the soul's ignorance on the right—
Nor ignorance of a rightful soul
يرجعْreturns لكمto you منهfrom him روحa spirit
يرجعْ لكم منه روح
ياO نورlight قلبيmy heart وعينيand my eye
يا نور قلبي وعيني
from him a spirit returns to you,
May he return to you in spirit
O light of my heart and my eye.
O light of my heart and eye
يرجعْreturns بجسمwith a body ونفسand a soul
يرجعْ بجسم ونفس
يرجعْreturns بخفَّيْwith the two slippers of حنينِHunayn
يرجعْ بخفَّيْ حنينِ
To return with body and soul
May he return in body and soul
is to return with Hunayn's two slippers.
May he return with hidden yearning
