I looked at her, and with a glance she sanctioned

my separation from her; yet separation, to me, is nearness.

And she had turned away from me and departed, permitting

my blood to be shed; my blood is precious, but love cheapened it.

And I went to extremes in my love for her, and she saw my blood

flowing from my eye, drawn forth by my weeping and sobbing.

So she said, “Lovers’ blood—I have indeed seen it

cheap.” So these two things filled her with astonishment.
