إذا صاحت الاطماع فاصبر فإنها
تنامfall asleep اذاwhen طالgrew prolonged الصياحthe clamor علىfor النهمthe ravenous person
تنام اذا طال الصياح على النهم
When cravings cry out, be patient, for they
When greed shrieks, be patient, for it
fall asleep when the clamor drags on for the ravenous.
Sleeps when prolonged is its shout against covetousness.
وقهرand the conquering of الفتىthe young man آلامهhis pains فيهin it لذةpleasure
وقهر الفتى آلامه فيه لذة
وفيand in طاعةobedience to اللذاتpleasures شيءsomething منof الألمpain
وفي طاعة اللذات شيء من الألم
And there is pleasure in a young man's conquering his pains,
And conquering his pains is for a youth bliss -
And in obeying pleasures there is a measure of pain.
And in obeying desires some pain exists.
