إذا خفت ظن الناس ظنوا وأكثروا

إذا خفت ظن الناس ظنوا وأكثروا

وإن لم تَخفْه أكرموك عن الظن

وإن لم تَخفْه أكرموك عن الظن

If you fear people's suspicions, they will suspect you all the more.

And if you do not fear them, they will hold you above suspicion.

فإن شئت هبهم ألف عين، وإن تشأ

فإن شئت هبهم ألف عين، وإن تشأ

فدعهم بلا عين تراك ولا أذن

فدعهم بلا عين تراك ولا أذن

So if you wish, grant them a thousand eyes; and if you wish,

then leave them without an eye to see you or an ear.
