A person's wealth is measured by what he seeks,
A man's wealth lies in what he strives for,
Not by what he owns in his hands.
Not in what he grasps in his hands.
مالكthe owner of الأرضthe earth فقيرpoor إنif رعىhe nurtures
مالك الأرض فقير إن رعى
مطلبًاan aim يطمحhe aspires بالعينwith the eye إليهtoward it
مطلبًا يطمح بالعين إليه
The owner of the earth is poor if he nurtures
The owner of land is poor if he yearns
An aim toward which he gazes longingly.
For something beyond his reach.
والذيand the one who أفقرpoorer منهthan him طالبa seeker
والذي أفقر منه طالب
ودَّaffection قلبa heart ماnot لهfor him ودaffection لديهwithin it
ودَّ قلب ما له ود لديه
And poorer than he is one who seeks
And he who is poorer than him seeks
The affection of a heart that holds no affection for him.
Contentment in what his heart holds dear.
