    Ignorance is a night in which there is no light.

    And knowledge is a pull [word unclear in context]; its light is renowned.

    O son of caliphs, how often has a seated man concealed himself

    From me, while he tarnishes your broken hearing?

    And I have discerned the corruption in that; and in calling

    Your servant there is ease in setting it right.

    قد حاطها الإحكام والتجبيرُ

    And the affairs of your realm are all well-balanced;

    Precision and mending have indeed safeguarded them.

    So lend an ear to a root: if you shake its branches,

    Scattered pearls will fall upon you.
