When the long spears are shattered, nothing stirs
When the enemy horses were unleashed, my worries were nothing but victory and nearing
My thoughts but victory and closing in.
For I and those who swim on the day of assembly
فَإِنّيfor I وَالسَوابِحِby the swimming steeds يَومَthe day of جَمعٍgathering
وَماand by what يَتلوrecites الرَسولُthe Messenger مِنَfrom الكِتابِthe Book
For I—by the swimming steeds on the day of gathering,
And what the Messenger recites from the Book
And by what the Messenger recites from the Book—
Indeed I have loved what Thaqif met
لَقَدindeed أَحبَبتُI delighted in ماwhat لَقِيَتsuffered ثَقيفٌThaqif
بِجَنبِbeside الشِعبِthe mountain pass أَمسِyesterday مِنَof العَذابِtorment
Have indeed delighted in what Thaqif suffered
Next to the cliff yesterday of torment
Of torment beside the mountain pass yesterday.
They are the head of the enemy from the people of Najd
هُمُthey رَأسُthe head العَدُوِّthe enemy مِنamong أَهلِthe people of نَجدٍNajd
فَقَتلُهُمُso killing them أَلَذُّmore pleasurable مِنَthan الشَرابِdrink
They are the head of the enemy among the people of Najd;
So killing them is sweeter than drink
So killing them is sweeter than drink.
We defeated the army, the army of Bani Qasiy
هَزَمناwe routed الجَمعَthe host جَمعَthe host of بَنيthe sons of قَسِيٍّQasiyy

We routed the host, the host of Banu Qasiyy;
And their kneeling camels with Bani Riyab
And she rubbed her breast against Banu Ri'ab.
And a Kalbite band they had abandoned

And a band of Hilal—she left them
With robes that were soiled with dust
At Awtas, wallowing in the dust.
And had we met the army of Bani Kilab
وَلَوand had لاقَينَthey met جَمعَthe host of بَنيthe sons of كِلابٍKilab

And had they met the host of Banu Kilab,
Their women would stand up keening
Their women would have risen while the dust billowed.
We raced the horses among them between Busa

We spurred the horses among them, from Buss
To the meadows they descend with plunder
To al-Awrad, descending with plunder,
With Lajab the Messenger of God among them
بِذيwith one possessing لَجَبٍclamor رَسولُthe Messenger اللَهِof God فيهِمamong them

With a clamorous host, the Messenger of God among them,
His battalion exposing itself to strikes
His battalion presenting itself for the clash of blows.
