سُيولُtorrents الجَدِيَّةِblood جادَتpoured forth generously
سُيولُ الجَدِيَّةِ جادَت
مُراشاةِappeasing كُلِّeach قَتيلٍslain man قَتيلاa slain man
مُراشاةِ كُلِّ قَتيلٍ قَتيلا
The torrents of blood poured forth generously,
The streams of generosity have flowed
Appeasing each slain man with another slain man.
Washing away every slain victim
سُلَيمٌSulaym وَمَنand who ذاthis مِثلُهُمlike them
سُلَيمٌ وَمَن ذا مِثلُهُم
إِذاwhen ماan emphatic particle ذَوُوpossessors of الفَضلِmerit عَدُّواًreckon الفُضولاthe merits
إِذا ما ذَوُو الفَضلِ عَدُّواً الفُضولا
Sulaym—and who is like them,
Suleim and those like him
When men of merit reckon their merits?
When the noble are considered excessive by the ignoble
